There is talk about many centres of large towns being car free. Large stores are closing and many people are ordering their groceries online. Buying habits have changed a lot in the last year. Car parks are never going to be as full as they were.
What has happened to the poster who was certain that clamping would return.?
Well our centre will be car free soon after John Lewis confirmed they are closing the store - the main draw for people to go to the shopping centre.

While I regret seeing great stores like JL closing, part of me rejoices in the fact that fewer scamming opportunities will exist in the future. Superstores such as JL are definitely car magnets.

Those pictures speak a thousand words.  Both ATA's are in car crash mode

As said in the house of commons, ATA's can be kicked out as well as PPC's.

Which is why, in my response to PAS 232, I suggested that any sanction points awarded to PPCs by the overseeing body, equivalent sanction points should also be given to the APA. That simple process would on its own sharpen up the APA's approach to monitoring and managing the PPCs in their particular sty stable, more effectively (of course, IMHO, as I suggested it 🤓!) than any other similar requirement in a statutory operating framework.

Some things I would like to see, would be for a zero tolerance on Anpr errors, for both the landowner add ppc where it world come to a point that anpr would be to risky for landowners/ppcs to operate the the purposes of generating parking tickets.
Zero tolerance of dodgy debt collectors / letters such as threats if cant pay, we will take it away.

That's good, how many sanction points would be needed to make them history ?

You know, this is just my personal experience, but I see quite a few Mercedes, Audi, BMW drivers using our local Lidl, so it makes me wonder: did they spend so much money on a nice car that they now have to spend much less on groceries?

No, they spent less on groceries so they could save up for a nice car but I guess it is a chicken and egg situation!  (and I don't mean where do they buy their chickens and eggs)

I wonder if there are going to be more landowners that decide to dispense with the PPC's and manage their own car parks when the new CoP comes into force.

Thinking about the small car park that I sometimes use it operates basically on a honesty basis. No machines, no ANPR, no PPC and no white lines. You just put your money in an envelope (provided) write your reg number on the envelope and post it in a box. I guess that they must be making around £40k per year maybe more with virtually no costs. Not bad for a small piece of land. They may get the odd person who does not pay but most people will be honest.

It does look in the middle of nowhere but there is a mainline station just across the road with very limited parking.
