6 year old car never MOTd

Options
So I was in McDonald’s car park last night and there was Ford S max that the police were all over so I googled the reg like you do and it has never been MOTd even though it was due it’s first MOT in Jan 2018. How is this even possible, no mot = insurance presumably for at least 3 years. I didn’t see anyone in the car so maybe they had already been nicked and taken in.

  • I have seen aituation where if taxed by direct debit , the system just rolls over and continues taking payments and shows as taxed even tho mot has run out
this happened to me on a small motorcycle that was basicly just parked up a online check showed that the mot was 14 mth s out of date but yet was taxed (and was insured)

Odd mindset, would ever have crossed my mind to do that

Do you do the same when you see a car on the side of the road that has been stopped by the police or maybe involved in an accident?

  • I do check interesting cars online. Sometimes write the plate down to check them, to see exact model or its history.

What sites come up with info against a reg plate?

Why don't you put a reg plate into Google and find out?

This is a middle-aged Ford sprogbus. It's hard to imagine anything less interesting.

It may well not have been insured, but - as ever - no MOT does not invalidate insurance. Insurers do not routinely check MOT status.
It is very likely not to have been taxed, though, because you cannot tax a car without a required test.

One possibility... Could the car have been a police vehicle? They don't require MOTs...

Possible had a private plate on it at some time
Last time I put a private plate on a car, the latest MOT is valid with the private plate, the previous MOTs do not show against the private plate they remain against the original plate
Works the other way round when you remove a private plate
Things may have changed since I last did this

No MOT doesn’t equal no insurance.

Twice now they've got in touch to tell me they wouldn't be able to restart the monthly direct debit for another year as the MOT was to expire before the renewal date.
Month to month they still took it, MOT or not.

The 2004 Ford Focus bangernomic contender I bought a few weeks ago is listed as having it's first MOT in 2015 when It should have been 2007. No idea where it has been or used for until 2015 when it first appears on the MOT database.

One thing for sure is it has only had 2 owners from new before me and the last owner had it since 2015. Also the car appears to have remained local ever since it was first purchased/registered from a local Ford dealership just a few miles away from me.
