Vauxhall Emissions - Compensation Companies?

I have noticed that there are now legal companies seeking compensation from Vauxhall similar to the VW emission scandal who are stating " Have you purchased or leased a diesel Vauxhall vehicle that was first registered between 2009 and 2019? You may be eligible to claim up to £20,000 after Vauxhall installed illegal emissions cheating devices in their vehicles.
Is this a scam?

    not a scam per se

Compensation for what though - what are your ACTUAL losses ?

You may just end up getting the pleasure of paying a share of a massive legal bill at the end

I've one of these EA189 engines and have been seeing the ads for the South Wales solicitors that come under cleanairclaims or something like that. Even their bumff suggests you'd lose a third of the settlement. I've tended to keep away from these operations based on the possibility of what JamoLew says, though they do seem to be on a no win no fee basis

But not if the company states, "no win, no fee." However, good point and something to look out for in the small print as most adverts talk 'register you claim' and I'm assuming many may fall for it thinking it a no win, no fee thing.

I suspect their definition of "no fee" is not "nothing to pay" though, likely the other side's legal costs are not counted as "fees" ;)

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I've just been targeted by one of these adverts online.
I guess that we could wait for these companies to conclude their cases and if upheld, it would be straightforward to claim via the small claims court for ~£80 ? ...but if everyone did this, then there would be no test case.

    2 things.
1 - Someone asked "what losses did you incur?"  well monetary losses are probably zero in respect of cost but if I based my purchase on the cars published emmissions and discounted those vehicles which didn't fit the criteria I chose then surely this is a breach of The trades discription Act by falsifying technical data on the vehicles in question?
2 - The issue of 'No win No fee"  one would need written assurances that any compensation awarded would not be less than any costs and/or fees incurred otherwise all you would be doing is paying to prove a point with no compensation.

    Thanks

so why would any company take on the "case" if there is zero financial benefit and potentially substantial financial cost to them

    Case closed, m'lud.

So what published NOx figure did you rely on before your purchase?

No, not CO2. That's not what this is about. It's about NOx.

And let's not forget that the figure that is in dispute is the one that was arrived at through the approved testing procedure, so is the official one.
