If 10 April is before policy ends then he will find out when he claims if he is covered. If the policy needs to renew he can do that.
I hear what you are saying but still do not think a claim for a holiday which isn't covered by insurance will be paid out and whichever way you look at it, the holiday in May will not be covered if the OP fails to renew his insurance.   It would be like saying "oh but I had cover when I booked it".   I am no expert but insurance companies are not renowned for their generosity and although he may claim 28 days in advance, they are unlikely to process and pay out until after the date of travel has passed.   By which time it will be too late to renew under same conditions.

I do think if you state definitely that the OP does not need to renew his insurance, he could find himself up the proverbial creek!

I ever said he should not renew it.
In fact, I said he can renew it  if he claimed before the insurance ran out and they said ithe current policy would not cover the cancellation.
