Is the issue that he hasn’t had two refunds. He’s had one refund and one gesture of goodwill for messing up a process. If he had had a refund via chargeback it would be a different story.

There is no issue, card issuer paying back is effectively the same as an S75 refund i.e. paying out of their own cash, vs a chargeback, if you subsequently got a refund that you were complaining against, then the issuer's liability under S75 is technically removed as there is no breach of the original terms, so OP should contact and refund the card company. Anything else is theft.

It wasn't a gesture of goodwill in the sense that it was compo for messing up, which seems to be the angle the OP is trying to convince themselves of.

The card company, like most companies, is using the term "gesture of goodwill" to avoid admitting to messing it up.  It's a sensible course of action as it avoids admitting liability so if the OP comes back at them claiming consequential loss or something else, they've not immediately torpedoed their defence by admitting the mistake already.  It wasn't really a gesture of goodwill at all, and even if it really was, it wasn't compensation for inconvenience or anything else, it was a straight refund for the transaction so if that issue has been resolved (by the issuing of a voucher) it should be returned.

You agreed to the board policy on seeking legal advice as part of your signup., possibly just before the information on correct forum choice that you confirmed having read and understood - so what’s so special about this that you need to ignore them?
Please can you point out the Specific terms that cover this edge case?
You have already confirmed your having read and understood them, so I shouldn’t need to..!

it was just the credit card decision to refund me.
I haven’t actually got anything in writing from the credit card company which is really annoying.
Under section 75 they are jointly liable to refund you, but will usually try to force the vendor to refund you first with a chargeback. If they didn't and chose to refund you from their own money, then they still refunded you.

The simplest option would seem to be to let the credit card company know that you have now received a refund. If you are correct then they'll let you keep the extra money.

It seems you want someone to convince you to keep quiet and hope nobody notices.
