Scam texts Re Lloyds Bank

We have had all the usual scam texts and emails Paypal, Amazon, etc etc and never click the link in them. We just delete and block them. But this time it was different. Wife and I have current accounts with Lloyds and we both got fraudulent text messages within 20 minutes of each other stating it was from Lloyds Bank and that a NEW PAYMENT had been set up for a K.JONES. It had a link to click which we did NOT click. We went onto our online accounts via a Desktop computer and no such payee was shown. We have accounts with several banks and we have never had these for other banks. So did the fraudsters just get lucky ? Twice ? or did they KNOW we were Lloyds account holders ? How did they obtain our mobile numbers ? Seems odd wife and I got them around the same time.

No hack just a scammer getting lucky you actually bank there.Ive had tons of these naming various banks including my own. I just delete9

The scammer sends these texts to everyone. A large proportion will not have Lloyds accounts and will delete the text. Some of those that do have LLoyds accounts will act on the text.7

You're over-reacting rather massively!
I get these texts regularly.
The bank hasn't been hacked.
You've just had some random texts.
That's all.15 -
I get them warning me about a problem with my Netflix account - guess what - don’t have one.
These scammers send millions of these emails/texts/robot calls an hour, they only need to get “lucky” for a very small %5 -

So the only answer is to withdraw all your money and keep it under the bed.7 -
Were the texts addressed to you /your wife in any way, such as partial account number, other than your phone numbers? If not, there was no hack, just a spambot generating phone numbers.

I had one of those messages last week. I've never banked with Lloyds. It (allegedly) came from +447919030958 and read 'LLOYDS. A request to add a new payee has been set up on 15/3 at 12:51PM. If you do not recognize this please visit https:// ***********.com'.
Needless to say, I just ignored it.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3662 -
You can ignore the messages and just block the phone number(s) they were sent from. If you want to help towards dealing with the scamsters, you can forward the spam text to 7726
But first of all, calm down! Lloyds Bank have got nothing to do with these text messages.5 -
I got similar ones yesterday about issues with my HSBC account (on my work phone which HSBC don't have details of) and asking me to click a link from 'the Royal Mail' to pay for postage on an item so they can deliver it. I doubt HSBC and Royal Mail have been hacked either - these are random scams trying to fool you into handing over personal data or click to dodgy sits.
I promptly blocked both numbers and deleted the texts - which is what you should do as advised by colsten above. If in doubt or worried then call Lloyds on their advertised numbers - which should be on their website or your bank card.0
