Speeding ticket twice in 24hrs

Options
Hi, I have been caught twice by automated cameras in 24hrs in the same city but on different roads. In first notice I was doing 35 in 30mph & in 2nd notice I was doing 39 in 30mph. Both notices given me the option of speed courses. I didn't do any course in the past. I even asked them to give me camera calibration certificate for my first speeding notice which I have included.
Please guide me regarding can I take course for first speeding and take points for 2nd notice. Could someone please tell me why I have been given ticket for doing 35 in 30mph? Doesn't it come under tolerance?
Thanks.

The starting point for enforcement is 110% of the limit plus 2mph, i.e.35 in a 30. The "tolerance" is up to 34.
Yes, you can take a course for one and an FP for the other.
  • As others have said, enforcement begins at speed limit + 10% + 2mph = 35mph in a 30.  Quite generous really.

You say this was in a "new city" to you.  Bear in mind that if you are on a road with street lights in an urban setting, and there are no speed limit signs, then the limit is 99.999% certain to be no higher than 30mph (and could be as low as 20).  If you are in a town with no limit signs and go over 30mph you are taking a big risk.

This applies to dual carriageways in towns as well.  (Some people think a dual carriageway can't be lower than 40mph unless signed - they are wrong).

No that is a guideline. Not the law.

NPCC guidelines for speed limit enforcement

If you've heard of the 10% plus 2 rule, The National Police Chiefs Council (formerly ACPO) publish guidelines though police officers can always use discretion.

    HWC

    Rule 125

The speed limit is the absolute maximum and does not mean it is safe to drive at that speed irrespective of conditions. Driving at speeds too fast for the road and traffic conditions is dangerous.

  • I didn't say it was the law.  If the limit is 30mph any speed above that is breaking the law.  The OP asked about tolerance in respect of enforcing the limit, and the generally accepted guidance is that enforcement won't commence below 35mph in a 30 limit.  As I said "... and go over 30mph you are taking a big risk"

Do you know someone who has been done for as low a speed as 34 in a 30?  If you do, Pepipoo would like to know as they always ask this of posters who say they were done for 34.

Indeed they would. As far as I know there has never been any evidence forthcoming, only "I can assure you was definitely done for doing 34mph". In fact I have even seen claims (may have been on here, I'm not sure) of a driver being prosecuted for doing 31mph in a 30 limit. To say I have my doubts about the veracity of that claim is being kind. But you never know.

I was alleged that North Wales was going to start prosecuting for any speed over the limit, but I've never seen such a case on Pepipoo.

If I take a course for my first notice. Will I still be paying £100 fine alongside course fee ?
