That's my issue - with the current bank interest rates being so low they are effectively eroding the real value of the investment as they are not keeping up with inflation
On the other hand inflation is so low today, that you can beat it ( just ) by holding Premium Bonds .
There are periods of time where you can just about get enough interest from savings accounts to beat or equal inflation , especially if you shop around and switch accounts quite often, but it is difficult to keep ahead of inflation long term without investing .
