New composite door fitted, spy viewer fitted 6 inches to high so I can’t see through it, I’m 5’ 7” and over 70.
I contacted the company I purchased the door + some windows from. They tell me that, a composite door cannot be repaired so I will have to live with it. I said that was unacceptable and asked if they could fit another viewer at correct height and cover the outside of the incorrect one with my house number. They said they would send the details to after sales, I never heard from them  (I believe I was already talking to the after sales guy the first time I managed to contact them) The 2nd guy I spoke to was not very pleasant, he was the one who told me that I have a door, with a spy viewer, they have fulfilled their side of the contract. I disagreed stating that the viewer was not usable so the contract was invalid. He eventually said he would ask after sales to contact me, they never did. Incidentally the after sales/complaints number is the same number I used when I spoke to these 2 guys.
My family visited and saw that the viewer was upside down and scratched, in fact it looks used. Plus they pointed out other faults with the door itself (their eyesights are better than mine) the letter box is not level, the weather board is too short, once the door is closed the bottom is slightly wider than the top, there are marks on the inside of the door and the repair to the outside brickwork above the door is tatty. I’ve emailed them, adding these other faults, suggesting that if we couldn’t reach a satisfactory agreement I would have to seek professional advice.

Yes they've provided a spyhole, but it's one that you can't use and therefore is clearly not fit for purpose. With that and the other faults that are present you need to exercise your statutory consumer rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and get them to replace the door, as it simply can't be repaired.

You could also try a section 75 claim if paid by credit card or chargeback if you paid by bank card.

Yes as above really - did you pay them by credit card? If so, cll the card company and explain you want a S75 claim opened.

What height was the viewer installed? By default they are installed at 1,500mm (4' 11") from the bottom of the door which can mean it is a little higher depending on the frame, the only other standard height as such is 1,000mm which is the recommended height for wheelchair users.

It is clearly not fit for purpose.

The average height of a female in the UK is 5'3" so they have clearly done this wrong.

I see you have already emailed them, but I would email again saying that under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the door is not fit for purpose (then list why) and you would like it either replacing or a full refund and your original door re-fitted. Give them a deadline by when to reply e.g. within 14 days.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Could they not fit another viewer at the correct height?
The OP has already asked that and has been ignored:

I hate to be the one to ask, but have they fitted this unusually high or are you quite short?

If you can’t see through it at 5’ 7 and it’s 6 inches too high , that would mean you would have to be 6’1  to be able to see through it, that does seem ridiculously high.  Have you measured the height of the spyhole from the bottom of the door as someone else suggested
  • Thank you all for your comments, I will be emailing the company again. pinkshoes said:

  • Sorry, I’m new on here so didn’t realise how ‘quote’ worked. I’m learning though 👍
one thing though pink shoes ..... I don’t think my original door will be able to be refitted, it was mainly glass with two side windows in the frame work.
Photome - the spyhole from the bottom of the door is at 5’ 7” ...same as my height to the top of my head, my eyes are lower.
