Loosing faith in HSBC :(

I have banked with HSBC from being 18, very proudly went with my dad (who had been a long customer of HSBC) to open my account.
Now I’m a bit older I’m starting to take a bit more interest in money matters and it occurred to me that HSBC are possibly the only bank not offering any rewards for being a customer of theirs.
I only have a normal current account with them, my parents have the advance account and from reading the terms and conditions there is nothing ( accept a minimum monthly pay in) between the advance and current account! Except getting an “I’m am incredibly richer than yoau !” Red and black Advance card!

Why are HSBC not offering any rewards for existing customers? Why were such a major world wide bank so reliable on visa offers (which has now ended) rather than using their own funds? I use HSBC as my main bank account but do have nationwide flex plus and virgin account.. is it time to ditch HSBC completely?

Up until recently, around September last year I think, HSBC did reward customers who held the Advance account. You had access to preferential savings rates as well as offers through the Advance Members website which, if the offers were to your liking, were pretty decent actually.gc747 said:I have banked with HSBC from being 18, very proudly went with my dad (who had been a long customer of HSBC) to open my account. Now I’m a bit older I’m starting to take a bit more interest in money matters and it occurred to me that HSBC are possibly the only bank not offering any rewards for being a customer of theirs.

Since September last year when they pulled the members website, other than the card colour, (lol, “I’m am incredibly richer than yoau!" ) there is no difference so maybe it is time to give someone else your main business.4 -
Because they have no need to cost themselves profit to retain customers. HSBC have always maintained a conservative stance as a bank.gc747 said:Why are HSBC not offering any rewards for existing customers?4 -
Close but no cigar, come back when you have one of these...gc747 said:I have banked with HSBC from being 18, very proudly went with my dad (who had been a long customer of HSBC) to open my account. Now I’m a bit older I’m starting to take a bit more interest in money matters and it occurred to me that HSBC are possibly the only bank not offering any rewards for being a customer of theirs.

Does earning ~£26000 per annum make someone "incredibly richer than yoau"?gc747 said:I only have a normal current account with them, my parents have the advance account and from reading the terms and conditions there is nothing ( accept a minimum monthly pay in) between the advance and current account! What sort of benefits does it bring? I’m a Coutts client, but only Premier with HSBC, so wonder if it’s worth upgrading.ratechaser said:

Wow well thanks for all replies, I was only joking about the “incredibly richer than yoau” it’s just always made me chuckle that the only difference between the 2 accounts were paying in slightly more per month.Never heard of HSBC jade, only premier. Jade doesn’t seem to be advertised on their website. What do you have to do to get that and, more importantly what are the benefits ?0

Crikey! Never heard of a “jade” before! Don’t think it’s even advertised on their website!ratechaser said:

Can’t fault you, or any one having a jade account, well played 👍0 -
I think Jade is invitation only, and you need to have £1million+ with them.
I'm with HSBC Premier for main account, joint, and mortgage + an investment account (although I have accounts elsewhere too) and I'm happy with the service.0 -
https://www.hsbc.co.uk/current-accounts/products/jade/...and no I don't have a Jade account myself, I have no desire to tie up half a million of my money with HSBC just to acquire a card with a few benefits (including of course the now near-obligatory airport lounge access). Was just pointing out that there are a few more tiers on top of Advance...2

I think it's 500k savings minimum. Bearing in mind HSBC's conservative rates etc, does anyone with "6+ digit" money actually keep it with them? With savings rates of around 0.01%, on 500k, that would be about £15 a day of interest. If you do, I'll pay you £50 (triple a days interest!) if you withdraw it in twenties, and i can throw the notes over myself while cackling evilly for 5 minutes?Peter
Debt free - finally finished paying off £20k + Interest.1
