Nowhere have I suggested that anyone should give fraudulent readings for personal financial advantage.
At a time when energy prices are rising, it is often good to overpay the old supplier for energy that has not yet been consumed.
Whether you give incorrect readings, or no readings to trigger an estimate that may fall in your favor.
The reading used for a Final Bill can be based on an estimate. This is common if previous bills have been based on estimates; if a Final Bill estimate is used then both suppliers have to use it to open and close accounts.
It does seem you're advocating a course of action intended for undeserved financial gain.
I don't believe YE auditors or SP have validated any readings "with the industry" at all & have both issued final bills.

I was switched from Yorkshire Energy to Scottish Power in December, after YE went out of business. On receiving details of the SP tariff I immediately transferred to Eon, as SP were proposing a 34% increase in the gas price & 42% increase in the electricity price.
Received SP's one & only bill, which didn't take into account the £100+ credit balance I had with YE - which SP had previously acknowledged. Queried the SP bill a month ago, & haven't been able to see the entire bill online, presumably because I've switched to Eon - I could only see the summary details. Spent 38 minutes on their online Chat facility until I got a response & 20 minutes waiting for their call centre to pick up
After a third email request, I now have the complete SP bill, & they have tried to charge me for electricity that YE had already charged me for. Needless to say I've challenged it & provided a copy of the YE bill as evidence
I wouldn't touch SP with a bargepole & have responded to their feedback questionnaires accordingly

This thread seems to have been hijacked in the last day or so by people who have different issues to those that the original poster - Ellie - was seeking help from forum members on. Can I respectfully suggest we refocus on providing Ellie with the help she is asking for.1
