Seller is refusing to refund me for an item I returned to them 30 days after ordering it. What Now?

In the middle of November, I bought a £150 watch strap on eBay UK for a vintage watch I inherited. I asked the seller if I could return it if I did not like it and they said yes. I ordered it then after about 25 days off messing around with watch repairers I decided to return it. I messaged the seller on eBay asking to return it and they emailed my personal email address giving me the return address.

I return the strap just before Christmas but they claim to have not received it but said it was probably delayed because of Christmas and it would be with them soon. I forgot about it until the end of January when I email to ask if they had received it to which they said they had not and I had lost the proof of postage with my tracking number.

I found the proof of postage recently and it shows it was delivered in December. The seller is claiming it was probably delivered to the building which has a few companies in it but they have not received it and are refusing to refund me.

The order was first placed over 100 days ago. How do I get my refund?

How did you pay for it?  You would still be within the time limit for a PayPal case.

I paid using PayPal via eBay's system. I'll try PayPal. Is there anything I can do about this via eBay?

I don't know.  Did you open a returns case on eBay when you sent it back?

I didn't open an eBay case. It was so long ago that the listing has now disappeared from eBay. Any help or suggestions would be great

Thanks for the help. Will eBay not care at all?

I think it would be extremely difficult for them to do anything as the messages went off eBay and without even the listing :(

eBay won't do anything about it. You did not follow their process for returning an item plus it went over the 30 days Money Back Guarantee period. Your best bet is PayPal at this time.

Will they not care that the seller sent me a message via email instead of eBay's messaging system?

You could report the seller to eBay for taking communication outside of the eBay platform but I doubt they will do anything about it to be honest with you. It would require multiple reports against them until they would probably look into it.
I've reported a seller before for sending me very rude and aggressive messages through the eBay messaging system and eBay has not done anything about it.

Plus you mentioned that you messaged the seller to send back the item after the 30 days have passed so seller could probably justify that a return was not posible to be opened and that's why they sent you return details through email. I would just recommend you to go through PayPal and upload all evidence of this whole deal including communication between you and seller from eBay and email + tracking number showing the item has been delivered. You have 6 months wiht PayPal to get your money back so get things moving ASAP.
