Faulty shoes from Rohan.

Options
Around July 2020 I purchased some walking shoes from Rohan. 6 months later I noticed both soles had split, more than average wear and tear. I contacted Rohan by email with photographs of both shoes and no questions asked they sent me a replacement pair out the next day. I've had the replacement shoes 8 weeks and I have noticed both soles are starting to split on these ones too. I only do moderate walking in them. Where do I stand? Should I ask for a refund and sent replacement shoes back? Would they accept? I notice they have stopped selling these shoes on their website.

That a lot of wear on the tread pattern for 8 weeks of moderate walking

Do you have a link for them on another site Ecco for example ?

What do you define as moderate walking?  What types of surface?  Do you have a habit of crouching down on the balls of your feet?
The first photo looks like the left hand shoe is pretty much worn out and the second photo is showing significant wear.  A friend of mine does a lot of walking and he is happy to get 6 months out of a pair of shoes - I would be lucky to get 9-12 months.
I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!
  • These are the shoes in question on Amazon.

On the second picture this is less than 8 weeks wear and tear. I had replacement shoes sent on 23rd Jan. I only did moderate walking in them as have more sturdy walking shoes with better foot support for my country walking. I only worn these around town, etc. They still are relative good looking shoes, just rubbish soles and the first pair only lasted 6 months, They split all along the length, Should I asked for a refund or credit note. Or should I continue wearing them and let them get worse before seeing for a refund? Or do you think I should leave it?

Just average walking. 15 miles a day, 7 days a week. I am overweight too if that could be the cause of them wearing out? Normally I can get 2 years out of walking shoes often the insoles going first.

Rohan is geared for outdoorsy people and I would think their shoes would be sturdy enough for walkers, not wearing out after 8 weeks.

I'd be pretty sure if you asked Rohan for a refund you'd get one.
They sent me a refund for a jacket I had bought from them that I hadn't even contacted them about, they had found a problem with the insulation migrating through the material on the sleeves in particular, and were sending refunds to everyone who had bought one, didn't even have to return the jacket.
As others have said that's an astonishing amount of wear on the left shoe for such a short time, do you just walk in them, the wear on the left shoe looks a bit what you might expect from cycling in them using a bike with the old fashioned steel "rat trap" pedals but even then that still seems a lot of wear.  Of course it could just be the sole material is too soft and not abrasion resistant enough.

Over the years on this board there have been complaints about various shoe brands and soles 'falling apart' and 'disintegrating.
Ecco is one of those companies.
Here is a thread from a couple of years ago (not Ecco but the same problem):

There's an interesting comment in the original post about the boots being 5 years old even though they had been recently purchased.

This thread also discusses disintegrating soles:

And this is a Google search:
It seems to be a certain type of sole that is subject to hydrolysis, more usual when shoes are bought and left in the box unworn.

I've had it happen to me with Clarks but the 2 pair of Ecco I have in my wardrobe are still fine.

I wouldn't continue wearing them until the they get worse before contacting Rohan.
I'd get in touch with them right now and see what they say.

TBH I don't think this style of comfort lightweight walking shoe is intended to be up to the job that you're asking of it, I think you need to look for something much stouter preferably with Vibram soles.

The first picture with all the wear is from his first pair of shoes that were returned.
