Sim only pay as you go for use in Ireland
Hello
I have a SIM only account out of contract with O2. I moved back to Ireland but want to keep the number for a while so would like to order a pay as you go SIM. Any advice on which would be a good one. I don't really use this UK number much now but need to keep it a while. I would like to avoid a monthly one, don't really need data and ones that doesn't expire or do they all disconnect if not used for say 6 months? I'm not sure if I would get charged Roaming now after Brexit if I answered calls on this number. Also wondering if the SIM would need to be activated in UK or can do in Ireland. Thanks for any advice.

Although there is no guarantee that free roaming will continue, there is also so far no sign of networks considering bringing back roaming charges. I dont want to speak out of turn, but I'd feel that even it eventually happened between UK and the rest of the EU, it might be unpopular across the Irish border so might stay longer.
So really you have the same choices as on a number of threads here asking about low use PAYG.
One of the best options available would be O2's classic 3p/min, 2p texts, 1p/MB. Unfortunately O2 discontinued this option direct from them, so you can't simply switch your current SIM to that tariff. However there are some sellers of these SIMs on eBay (maybe eBay Ireland as well as UK; I haven't looked), and you can activate one of these, and then ask O2 to transfer your existing number to it.
On most SIMs you need some chargeable use within 6 months, but this can be even as simple as sending a text message to yourself. I believe Three UK SIMs, or at least some of them, can survive with no use at all.
Edit: I did look on eBay Ireland. I didn't see anything that is obviously that SIM, mainly some pre-enrolled for other bundles etc, so I'd suggest go via an eBay UK listing. Look for Classic and 3211 -
Oh brilliant thank you so much, found one on Ebay UK, getting rid of that contact will save me about £35 a month0 -
Also sim might not work as you will have to make home phone on the home network0

They are more likely to keep free roaming with sister networks 3 and Vodafone than O2 as it doesn't exist in the ROI any-more.0
