  • ok , by default the OP had £20 of insurance (at least thats whats offered me at my local) , perhaps he should see if the £20 worth of insurance will be paid out on a parcel that has been opened , re sealed and delivered to the recipitant , as per your views "A parcel being opened in transit can very well be described as damaged."
  • Opening a parcel carefully, taking out the contents and resealing would take time and the depots presumably have cameras everywhere? Did you drop off at a locker or a shop? Hermes claims are helpful on the phone although your contract is not with them but any theft that has occurred, has either involved their staff or an appointed drop off location if dropped at a shop. I would still ring them and report this as thefts often escalate. Couriers use their own tape for parcels that get ripped in transit therefore that should rule out the buyer if the photo clearly shows it's been opened.

The OP didnt from what I can see. You are talking about buying from Hermes. The OP bought via a reseller.
Hermes use them to negate dealing with punters and resellers get better prices from Hermes.

you have been the victim of a crime, just as if someone had stolen the laptop from your car. report the crime to the police, get a crime number, report that to hermes (except hermes only have chatbots working for them so good luck with that)
