So it wasn't a big truck, just a little 7.5tonner. Home deliveries.
It looked pretty big on a little cul de sac
    Smaller than the bin wagon.
    Smaller than a fire engine.
No wider than an ambulance or supermarket delivery van.
I’m not sure what your point is?
My point is that if you're suggesting it was somehow unrealistic and contributory negligence to use a vehicle of that size to access a residential road, then you are simply wrong.

I am not sure why Adrian is fixated on the size of the truck

Did the OP suggest that? , they just said it looked big on a small cul de sac.  The negligence is letting the door swing in to the car ,regardless of the truck size

It was certainly the inference I took from their comments, yes. A 7.5t truck is a perfectly reasonable and common sight in a residential road - and there is a perfectly reasonable expectation for far larger vehicles.

    I never said otherwise.

    BUT...

If there was insufficient space for a 7.5t truck to get reasonable access, then there is also contributory negligence on the part of those parking. And that's what that leads to problems such as doors dinking those cars.

We've all seen residential roads parked solid and thought "How the blinkin' nora will a fire engine or ambulance get through there?", haven't we?

What can lead to minor damage and inconvenience when it's a truck delivering something can be fatal when it's emergency services.

Where I used to live, there was a regular parking problem on Sunday evenings due to those attending a local church - double-parking, parking on corners, parking in narrow sections - to the point that we used to go in a different route at the affected times... Sure enough, one week, a parked car caught fire. It took the fire brigade about half an hour to cover the last 200m, because they were having to bounce cars out of the way.

The hint was taken. Briefly. It was three weeks before the parking was back to normal.

IF (and I'm not saying it is, simply because we only know the barest details) this is the situation in the OP's road, then I hope the hint gets taken.

No, I said it was big when you asked me, it looked big to me in the little cup de sac.   The doors were huge heafty doors that banged my car.

Still waiting for the insurance to call me back with the repair arrangements.
The driver has apparently admitted to what happened, so that’s nice & simple.
