Found Really Old 1989 Share Certificate - what are these worth?

Options
Due to family bereavement, on clearing out found something belonging to a previous occupant. 1989 dated 40 no. tsb group shares. What are these worth now?
Are they worth anything? Led to believe occupant died in 2005 based on obituary search. Does that mean that the descendants cannot make a claim as it is so long ago?
Wanted to try and pass to rightful descendant, don't know where to start, but really there is no point if they aren't worth anything. Can any one help?

TSB didn't merge with LLoyds until 1995. Shareholders would have been issued with new share certificates after the merger. A piece of paper to frame.

Haha. Yes. 1989 is a really old share certificate. The TSB shares are no longer traded and the certificate will have been replaced so the person named on the certificate cannot phone a broker and sell the shares. The certificate, however, does have a value. There are people who collect share certificates. The hobby is called scripophily. If a famous company goes bust, the shares themselves become worthless but the certificates form a piece of history. This certificate is not going to be worth a lot though, in my opinion. I've just had a look on eBay and a 1970 British Leyland share certificate sold recently for £5. Your certificate might be worth a similar amount in a few years. You certainly should not throw it away.
