How on earth to sell Lloyds TSB shares

Hi everyone,

My hubby has 190 Lloyds TSB shares that he was given for his 12th birthday back in the early 90's (ahhhh).

We know they aren't worth a lot now and he's toying with the idea of selling them but doesn't have a clue how to go about it.

We think the shares are worth 67p each (we think it's pence and not £'s anyhow!) so it's only just over £100! :o

What's the cheapest way to offload them? If it's going to cost say £50 "admin" to get rid of them, then he's better off holding onto them I suppose.

We are completely clueless with regards to this share business!

Any advise greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Sarah

    http://www.share.com/a/selling-share-certificates.html

looks a cost effective way of doing it.
  • That's brill. Stoopid question alert, how do I get a rough idea of what we'd be able to sell them for?

Put the ticker LLOY into the search box - like this.

Lloyds is a very highly liquid share, so any prices you see on a live site e.g http://www.google.com/finance?q=LON%3ALLOY will be approximately what you will get as the buy and sell prices will be around 1/20th of a penny in difference

dont think its as simple as that. Lloyds TSB shares do not exist anymore. When the buy out occured of HBOS was there a translation of Lloyds TSB shares into Lloyds Banking Group shares at a certain ratio? If so this would mean that the LLOY ticker is not right asyou would need to understand your Lloyds Banking Group holdings?
  • LLOY is still correct. The group name changed but I dont think the shares really are any different, its HBOS who disappeared and got switched over.
I held around that time and didnt get anything new, they let people buy their shares for free for a while and that was it

If you havent been in contact you missed some dividends and right issues and a scrip issue of new shares and so on. Should come to something

That's True! My holding increased three times - on 11th May 2009 [Corporate Action Equity allotment] 8th June 2009 [Corporate Action Data Load] and 14th December 2009 [Corporate Action Data Load].

However, although singingsister refers to "a paper certificate" it may be that her hubby was originally given 50 LloydsTSB shares which - judging by the increase in my holding might now have become approximately 190 Lloyd's Banking Group shares worth today approx. £117 [at 62p] :undecided

Edit: That would only apply if he had purchased some of the additional shares as "Rights".
