Dash Cam Installation

Can't imagine why anyone would permanently install a Nextbase Dashcam
All such dashcams are large with viewing screens built in, essentially like conventional digital cameras.  If you leave one on your dashboard you're just advertising it to thieves who will smash your windows and steal it.  No different to the older Sat Navs.

Far better to get a very small dashcam that does not have a built in screen like say the Mobius Action Cam which is smaller than a matchbox and can be tucked under your sun visor and easily removed and carried in the pocket when you leave the car.  With a decent SD card in it you can get 10 hours of continuous looped recording at full HD quality, 30fps.

Yes because dash cams are top on the list of reasons cars get broken in to aren't they.

Not saying it hasn't happened somewhere on the planet because it will have. I don't think most people will be that bothered about a £100 dash cam though.
I've had mine in for 3 years now, the wife has had hers for 2 years. No theft issue so far and we'll take our chances going forward.

Some are more "stealth" than others too. Even one with a screen can look to be part of the car or less look at me, e.g. Viofo wedge type.
I don't like those which have logos, chrome effect lens surround and h.d. etc., emblazoned on their front for all to see. The writing is easily covered/disguised using black insulating tape.
One insurance company did refuse insurance when I declared having a dashcam during the quote application - "theft risk"! Another gave a £10 discount to an existing policy when I declared a dashcam.

The value of a dashcam may not be restrictive for you personally but for a street druggie it's a very easy quick theft that will fund his next fix.    Such people know which dashcams are worth good money and which are not.  The ones with built-in GPS are the ones they will go for.

However the more worrying aspect of dashcam theft is that professional thieves use them for more nefarious reasons.  They review the footage and from it can see where a person lives and the times of day they typically leave the house and return to it giving them good intel on when to burgle your house.  Additionally if you have the microphone enabled on your dashcam then thieves can review what you have been speaking about which might include personal information about yourselves or other people.

Just think of all the data your cars built in GPS/Stereo can now store...  Name 4 car manufacturers that store the cars
stereo code in the car and 99% of owners do not know its there and where the PDI do not remove it...

May make you think twice and have a look to see if the codes still in the car.

Dealer. "Yes there are stickers with the cars radio code and VIN etc. We helpfully stuck them to the stereo for you"

Just curious, but having received a discount for having a dashcam what would be the implications of being unable to provide footage of a serious incident if your dashcam, for whatever reason, hadn’t captured said incident?  i.e. if the dashcam was faulty, or you’d forgotten to switch it on, or whatever.

Hello, I have a Nextbase Dashcam which I bought from Amazon a while back.
Who I could get to fit this in my car so that the wires are hidden and nicely tucked away?
Would a mains dealership offer this service or would I need seek a specialist garage?
I asked Halfords but they said they can only install dash cams that were purchased from them directly.
    Thanks.

My local Halfords has hard wired my dash cam into 2 different car now for £35 which included the kit. I would ask them again.
  • As the fitting will mainly be the 'hard wire kit' can you buy the hard wire kit only from Halfords (is it £19.99) and ask them to fit that.  Surely the 'fitting' of the actual dashcam is just sticking it to your windscreen and plugging it in.

Yes you can. I did this when I changed car and wanted to keep my dashcam.

Yes but like I said, each to their own and we will 'risk' it going forward.
At the same time having a car radio could be a potential reason for a theft.
Having alloy wheels could see your car left on bricks.
Let's not stop there .... having a car in general is risky. If you don't have a car then it can't get nicked, right?

Off topic as it is ... out of interest, are you one of these that think Bill Gates is tracking people who have Covid vaccines?
