Look it up on your council/water suppliers website, what you have to pay?
Because we do not have any rates or ratable values here for domestic properties?
Here it has EVERYTHING to do with CT. Your Charges 2021 2022 - Scottish WaterAbout Your Charges 2021-22
The vast majority of households in Scotland are billed by their local authority for their water supply and waste water collection services together with their Council Tax. These charges are referred to as unmeasured charges and are based on the Council Tax banding of the house.
It is all calculated by the band. The council issues a combined bill for council tax, waste and water charges

Moved away from London when I was younger, so/and have never bought any property there. The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
Thankyou did not know England had such a completely different system.
England and Wales moved in April 1990 from Rateable Value(RV) to the Poll Tax and then Council Tax. From that date Water meters became mandatory on virtually all new build properties. As pre 1990 Water Charges were based on the RV, existing properties were given the choice to remain on RV based charges.

I am with Northumbrian Water in a 3 bed detached house in Northumberland, when we moved in our bill was around £50 a month. We got a meter fitted and now we use about £18 a month. The previous owners were on an assessed charge and they paid around £30 a month. Our old house was a 2 bed terrace in Gateshead and we paid £21 a month (no meter, just normal billing). So I think your bill seems odd in that it has suddenly gone up so much. I would say that Northumbrian Water customer services are some of the most helpful I have dealt with - if you phone them they will probably be able to shed some light on your bill.
Northumbrian Water charges have gone down significantly from last year so there is something not right about your bill.0
