Eon Representative can you please help? - Switching to Eon for gas

I would be grateful for your help.

I have been with Eon for Electricity since 1986 and with British Gas for Gas since then until now. Always been wary of switching because of any problem.
I am switching my gas to you. I was asked to give a reading which I did on the 6th via my online account. This didn't show up so I did another reading on the 8th and samething happened so again on the 9th.

I was worried something was wrong so telephoned today. After a long conversation and being kept on hold for a period I was told my reading could not be validated as I had given 3 readings on the same day, all on the 6th. As you will know it is impossible to give more than one reading a day on the website.
It was agreed that I would send a photograph of the meter I have done this by email and letter to Nottingham (special delivery).

The gentleman said it could take 5 days or longer if busy for it to be dealt with.

My problem is I must give my reading before March 12th to make sure everything runs smoothly. What happens if this doesn't happen?
I was wondering if I could private message my account details and you would be willing to look into this so that my meter photograph and therefore my meter reading could be accepted for validation?

Very grateful for any assistance you could give as this is causing me great concern.

Thanking you.

Hi. Until the EON rep replies. May I ask why you are switching to EON for gas after 35 years?

Is it because you have researched and they are competitive? Or just easy to have both together?

Have you checked any other providers by putting in your actual annual gas usage here, Click on LINKY

Worth doing it only takes a few minutes.

You may if not already compared, input your electric at the same site?

Have included Matt's forum title. Really helpful so he should see it and help. E.ON_Company_Representative

Hi mkcj, hope you're well. I'll have to start off with an apology regarding this situation .. through no fault of your own this has been made to be much more complicated than it needs to be. You've not switched energy for a while so wouldn't necessarily know how these things go.

When switching you have an 'opening read window' which is 7 days either side of the actual switch date. If yours is the 12th March then the start reading can be provided anywhere from the 5th March to the 19th - so it's not too urgent in that respect.

When you enter opening readings online unless an error message was shown then the readings will have come through to us. However if you were to logout and then back in to check you won't see the readings. This is entirely normal and the readings won't show your end until they've been 'validated' by our systems which can take 7-10 days.

Your previous supplier will have provided us with an estimated start reading which would be used to open your account on if we didn't get one from you. You've provided 3 separate start readings and it's likely that we'll use the one closest to this estimate. This will then be sent to your previous supplier for them to close your account down with.

Can you send me a private message on here please? All I need is your email address, and then I can find the email you sent and will reply to that directly with more concrete information once I've checked your account.

    Thanks, Matt

  • Hello,
was wondering if the E.ON rep could help me. I am having so many problem's with e.on at the moment. I have been
with e.on for many years but as soon as i decide to open an account, read my own meter's and pay my bill's online
everything goes pear shaped. I paid my gas and electric for December and i have the receipt's to prove it. I have never
owed them any money, but the next thing i get an email saying i owe my gas bill, i have sent emails and copies of my
receipt's but the replies i get are quite arrogant and ignorant, they insist i owe this money. On my account it say's my
next meter reading's will be in May while at the same time they are asking me to read my electric meter now, no mention
of my gas reading, my gas and electric need to be read this month[March] but when i go on my account there are no
boxes for my gas reading only one's for the electric,God know's what they are doing, I need to read my meter's NOW.
They have messed my account up, I have sent emails to everybody and anybody at eon and all i get back are senseless
replies. I will not be paying a bill that has already been paid,i would rather go to court and sort it all out there.
I am sorry if i sound nasty but all they do is send crackpot emails threatening me with Debt collector's and goodness
know's what else. I will be 75 in a few week's and have to look after my husband who has heart failure, we do not need
this senseless and useless carry on. Please can somebody help as i have tried everything. Is this all the thank's people
               get for being good customer's.
                                                                   Many thank's
                                                                        Sheila.

If you have been with EON for years, you already have an online account.

    Why try and open another?

Your post is a little difficult to read, perhaps just some basic facts dates reading etc would help get helpful reply's until the EON rep is able to come back.

Could the problem be that on submitting a reading, you inserted an unnecessary apostrophe into a field that can only cope with  digits?

Sounds like you're on a dual fuel Pay On Receipt of Bill tariff.  That's unlikely to be the cheapest, especially if you haven't switched for several years.
When this has been sorted out, consider switching to paying by Direct Debit and seeing whether separate suppliers are cheaper.  Start comparing with Citizens Advice and 'Which? Switch', entering your annual kWh usage derived from actual meter readings a year apart.  Just compare annual costs, always ignore all projections and savings claims.  Also have a look at the customer service ratings on Citizens Advice and the 'Add your feedback on energy supplier xxxx....' threads here on the forum.
Then remember to send monthly readings, keep your own records and check that your DD payments are keeping up with your usage, it's not All You Can Eat: if you use more than expected your DD will be increased.
Also make sure you're on the Priority Services Register and have applied for all relevant benefits such as Warm Home Discount.
