Interesting post from heyhello.I was going to post because a lot of people seem to be assuming that all self-service tills weigh the items as you put them into your bag (or whatever) and also that there is an audible "beep" every time an item is scanned. In my local Waitrose the items are not weighed after you scan them and most people (because the self-service tills in Waitrose are incredibly badly desisgned) just put the scanned items into their bag, back in the trolley. (That's because if you're buying more than about three items there isn't enough room at the till to put your scanned purchases, so they have to go back into the trolley). Also the volume of the "beep" can be adjusted or disabled altogether. This has meant that I have previously successfully scanned an item, but because I haven't heard it (either because the volume is too low or because it's been disabled) and because nothing is weighed, I've scanned it a second time by mistake, thinking I'd missed it the first time. Yes you can look at the display, but if you are buying multiples of the same product it can be difficult to keep track of them all.So, to get back to the OP, if the tills are anything like those in my Waitrose (and I think heyhello is suggesting that it is possible that they might be) then my own experience is that scanned items may not necessarily be weighed and you may not necessarily expect to hear a "beep" each time something is scanned. (Or you may hear multiple "beeps" going off all around you).1

The scanning issues were after a very long shift (driver). In your opinion do you think I could lose my job, as it was an honest mistake

Someone already explained this and it looks like you didn't see it. Much of what you wrote isn't necessarily correct.pinkshoes said:
Could you explain how it is an honest mistake when it is really hard to miss scanning an item, let alone several? What exactly happened?marlene1967 said:Thanks for your advice. I’m not a member of the union, I’m having to do this on my own. Don’t want to burden a colleague with this

When you scan an item, it beeps, the item name and amount appears on the screen, and then it expects the item of the correct mass to be added to the bag.
If you add an item without scanning it goes nuts and flashes red and needs a member of staff to sort it out.
So it would help if you could explain exactly how this happened.
If you used your staff badge to over-ride the till error, then yes, it is highly likely you would lose your job.0
