Help with drilled hole slightly off

Hi,

So I was trying to drill some holes in my door to hang up some hooks. However see picture below:

The hole on the right is slightly off, it needs to be like 2mm to the right. It's annoying as I had it all measured, but then when I drill, the drill moves slightly and is not centred.

Anyways, my hole is now off and I need a solution. What can I do? I'm not very good with DIY.

I have researched and there's something called wood filler? The thing is I already have wall plugs in both the holes. One has a head (the middle one) and the right one doesn't have a  head. So maybe it's better if I pry out the one in the middle.

Would something like this work?:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Multi-purpose-premium-joiners-filler/dp/B007PCPVKK/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=wood+filler&qid=1615294762&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExNlgzSzZYQ1VQOVNaJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwODQwNzk0M1BQS0NXNVVBN1hUTiZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMTAyNDc0NTZQUTgzM1VXNzJSJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Thanks,

Or how about something like this with Matchsticks and glue?

  • File the hole in the fixing bracket to elongate it?

Is the door wood? If so why have you used wall plugs?

Can't you just drive the screw in at a bit of an angle?

I don't think I'd want to damage the product! You'd also probably be able to see the elongated hole afterwards slightly.

Good point! It just came with it, so I just used it. As i said I'm useless at DIY! I think it's part wood part hollow? When I was drilling the hole, there was resistance for a bit, and then the resistance just gave way, i.e. it's hollow at some point (few cm in). Do I still need a wall plug in that case? Maybe there is enough wood there already to get a good grip

Well actually, there's 3 screw points. So for two I can use wall plugs and the last one which I am adjusting Ill just drive the screw straight in as you said. It should be strong enough.

If it's a hollow door I would leave the plug in, and just stick the screw in at an angle, it should still grip in to the plug

I can't do it at an angle though, because the hook nobs screw onto the screws afterwards. My hook nob will then be at an angle!

Although I've already bought matches now, and waiting on wood glue tomorrow. I'll probs just do that

You can get Hollow Core door fixings. You could take it off, fill the holes and then start again in a slightly different position.
Fix in in one place, and then mark out the rest of the holes.
Tap a nail in to centre  it for the drill bit.
