when my dad passed away this February, it took 10 weeks in total (10K in this instance) they didn't ask for probate either from us, even though website suggests can if over 5K.

We sent them the death certificate quickly and that was returned very quickly by them but still took 10 weeks in total between the initial notification to them and the money being returned.  Indeed the premium bonds were the last of the banking to be completed (only land registry took longer, to process the change of their house in joint names to moms sole name).

Unless in a desperate rush to collect funds the PB continue to accrue price wins for a year, potentially better than the account they sit in till you sort out the estate.

Often better to put PB to the back of the queue of assets to be collecting.

NS&I told me in a letter last week that they won't require Confirmation (probate) to release my late DM's funds of £26,400. As I said in a different thread on the same topic that decision MAY be based on the fact that I held POA over her NS&I account.  Her account details have now gone from my NS&I screen.
    No monies yet...

Monies received this morning.  A letter arrived yesterday enclosing the death certificate.  Can't complain about the service.
  • Thats brillant news you have received yours so quickly. I do think it’s because of POA though. Where is the compassion to get this sorted quickly and then we can move on to grieving our loved one. So how long in total did it take from start to finish?
  • Has anyone cashed their loved ones premium bonds in since June yet as we are still waiting?
