My partner has money in a TSB simple savings account. He is at exchange contract stage of a house purchase in the UK and TSB insist he has to go into branch to make the transfer of money arrangements. We are stuck in strict lockdown in Guernsey. They won't budge. Any advice?

Is the bank open? If so, what's the problem?0

Guernsey aren't stopping you leaving.

You can return to Guernsey after conducting your "essential business that cannot be undertaken remotely", assuming you're normally resident there.
The UK does not require people arriving from the Common Travel Area to self-isolate.

Opp, can you transfer a smaller amount on line each day to a current account? I transferred £25k a day from my TSB current account for my deposit.
If not can you make the savings account a joint account with someone in the UK who can go into a branch?0 -
Are there any branches on Guernsey, and are they open? If so, just go. It's essential travel if it's the only possible way to complete a house purchase.
Some banks will let you do large transfers by phone, provided you pass a lengthy security quiz. Some won't. If Lloyds policy is that you have to go in branch, you'll have to go in branch.
As someone else said, alternative is to spread the transfer over several days, doing the maximum you can transfer online each time. However, some banks have quite a low limit which would mean it would take a long time to do a very large transfer...0 -
How much do you have to transfer? He might need to go into a branch to transfer via CHAPS, but there are alternatives. Check with your solicitor what they'll accept
* request a check book and post to solicitor
* series of online BACS transfers upto the online limit0 -

The money is in a savings account and not a current account, so doesn't give the same flexibility on transferring money outside the bank. Not sure if CHAPS is a possible alternative, but if this were me, I'd be opening a TSB current account online ASAP!0
