Valid reason to leave BT mid-contract?

Hello
I am currently 8 months into a 24 month Fibre with Halo broadband contract with BT (£36.99 per month) and want some advice on whether I can leave without incurring a massive cancellation fee. I only upgraded to that package from my existing expired BT broadband contract as my router was frazzled by a lighting strike, and the wait for an engineer was over 3 weeks, so the BT customer services guy suggested I upgrade to take advantage of the 4G mobile device that I could get within 2 days as part of the Halo package. The 4G router never materialised, and when the engineer arrived, all he did was swap out the router (sure sending one out would have been a quicker and cheaper option!). I didn't cancel it as the hours I'd already spent on-hold trying to get through to BT had sucked the life out of me. The speeds I get are awful (8Mbps download guarantee), which is making working from home a challenge, but as I live in the countryside, this was comparable with other available offerings at the time. Now Airband have installed their fibre on our lane and are offering 100Mbps at roughly the same price I pay BT now, plus they'll contribute £250 to any cancellation fees I incur if I switch. Does the non-arrival of the 4G mobile dongle (the reason I joined, as stated on a recorded call) or the atrocious speed, give me a valid reason to leave mid-contract without having to pay out the remainder of the contract?
Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can give me

Something that didn't happen 8 months ago isn't going to be a reason for early termination now1

No you have no reason to escape free from contract .

It's odd you have not before now. Of course they may well think it was delivered which is going to be hard for you to look into now.1

There's not a lot of use, whinging about something that happed eight month ago.
You have to sort stuff out at the time of the event so you cant use it to try and terminate your contract early after all this time as you've accepted the situation by default.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Thanks for your replies. Yes, I agree that I should have sorted it out 8 months ago (i.e. cancelled the upgrade) but at the time I couldn’t face more time listening to hold music, or risk more time without a connection. Ah well, we live and learn. At least my awful broadband connection gives me an excuse to leave my camera switched off on work Teams call.0
