                    Has anyone experienced this?
I had an open complaint with SSE about their awful customer service and the fact they wouldn't accept a meter reading from me as I had smart meters.
The gas meter was dumb and they were producing estimated bills hence my need to submit the reading (as I had previously).
New meters installed and given an IHD. That didn't work properly and so this week it's been replaced. As soon as it worked I noticed higher costs on the screen when we woke up.
Turns out the standing charge on my meters are wrong.
Emailed to complaint handler that they have gone up despite being on a fixed contract and he says at their end all is fine and next bill will be accurate (previous to new meters old bills her also fine). He is going to generate an early bill to confirm.
I can't see how it can be if the meter is programmed with the wrong info.
For reference
Gas SC should be 27.35p and I'm being charged 44.05p daily.
Elec SC should be 25.97p and I'm being charged 53.01p daily.
Anyone experienced this and how far should I push for my meter to have the correct info on. I was planning on insisting it is corrected but I don't want to be seen as difficult.
My concern is somewhere down the line I'll get " your meter says XXX and we have undercharged" and I will have to go through this process again.

Forget the rubbish that the IHD and meter tells you, if it's gone dumb it won't have a clue what the correct rates are.Just make sure the the bills themselves are calculated correctly from the readings you send them.Millions of these stupid devices have gone dumb, so you'll just have to wait your turn until the smart meter fiasco is sorted out.0

They aren't dumb..... They were replaced because they were dumb and now new ones show incorrect standing chargeGerry1 said:Forget the rubbish that the IHD and meter tells you, if it's gone dumb it won't have a clue know what the correct rates are.Just make sure the the bills themselves are calculated correctly from the readings you send them.Millions of these stupid devices have gone dumb, so you'll just have to wait your turn until the smart meter fiasco is sorted out.0

When mine were originally installed by Scottish Power, the IHD never showed the correct UP and SC.
Even if your IHD was showing the correct UP and SC, the gas would never be accurate anyway. The only info (in the main) that is passed to your energy supplier is the number of units used. I would say you have nothing to worry about.

Thankyou. It's my meters which also show this. Not just the IHD I just noticed the higher costs on th IHD which prompted me to investigate.PennineAcute said:HampshireH said:Has anyone experienced this?

Your bills are based on your consumption measured by your meters, in kWh for electric and cubic metres for gas, and the rates on your supplier's systems. Wrong rates on in-home-displays are confusing and annoying but do not affect your bills.1

The IHD is just passed the info from the electricity smart meter. In the case of the gas, it is passed to the electricity smart meter, then your IHD.

It is irrelevant and has no impact on your bill, just ignore the costs you see on the IHD or the meter.HampshireH said:Thankyou. It's my meters which also show this. Not just the IHD I just noticed the higher costs on th IHD which prompted me to investigate.

Thanks least I don't need to worry about them chasing me for additional standing charges at a later date based on what the meter says.0

For ToU tariffs, my supplier only sets an equivalent/average unit cost. Billing is always done on meter readings or 30 minute usage. Two years on, despite the correct rates being set in my meters, the IHD electricity cost is always 4p out and the gas cost doesn’t include the daily standing charge.0

Hi,take regular meter readings weekly or at least monthly, set up your own wee spreadsheet and keep an eye on usage and cost.1
