thermostat on south facing wall, so keeps turning off.

HI. I have a small issue with the positioning of the room stat in this house.the stat is in the hall which is south facing, so consequently the hall being only 4 ft wide gets warmed up very quick when the sun is on it.(most of the day). so the thermostat senses this and turns off all the heating. which is fine in the hall. meanwhile the rest of the house, in particular the upstairs bathroom and back bedroom are, lets say a little cold!. so, any suggestions please?

    I get this a bit, since the thermostat is in the hallway, right next to the radiator (?) and near the front door that gets sun all morning.
    Until i can move things, I've taken to adjusting the thermostat up a bit, and turning down the radiators a bit, until its suitable.

    A few years ago when we first moved into our current house the thermostat was in the hall right next to a radiator.

    I'd just turn it up. Then obviously adjust to suit as the weather gets warmer. In fact, that is what we have to do because our thermostat is in our small hallway where it tends to hold the heat. And the rest of the place is just tepid! It doesn't mean you'll use more energy, just that the thermostat has been fooled by the sun. . .

    Get a wireless thermostat, then you can put it where ever you want it. Even better would be a programmable wireless thermostat and then you can decide what temperatures you want and when you want them.

    Depending on how your system is wired the receiver can either be installed where the existing stat is located or adjacent to the boiler. If you can install a light switch then installing a wireless thermostat isn't much more difficult (three or four wires instead of two)

    I know what you mean my OH complained about the temp I had to set the nest stat to in order to keep the house warm!
    I tried explianing it was just the temperature at that particular point and not to worry about it!
    In the end I just moved it to a different position where it can be set 4 degrees cooler for the same heat!
    Either move it or up the temperature to the required level to heat elsewhere! iIt makes no difference!

    even worse than this is my Mums house which doesn't have a room stat at all. because when they had solid fuel taken out, and combi boiler installed, my dad was too tight to pay the extra £200 for a room stat. and to have it added on now would be a lot more than that. so the only thermostat my Mum has is the one at the actual boiler. crazy idea.

    You can get a programmable wireless stat for about £50-£70 and they work perfectly with a combi
    (this one is only £44.50 -https://www.amazon.co.uk/RT510RF-Wireless-Thermostat-PROGRAMMABLE-Compliant/dp/B07X93PJSQ/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=Programmable+Wireless+Thermostat&qid=1615060686&sr=8-7 )

    It's not a difficult job to do it DIY, but an electrician should be able to fit one in less than an hour

    * move the stat
    * turn the stat up so it does not shut off the boiler
    * replace the stat with a wireless one you can move around
    * put on a jumper
    Or a combination of the above!
