Help - mislead by CPW
My other half's mobile phone was broken so she went to Carphone Warehouse to see about getting it fixed (originally bought there and it is insured with them). They looked at the vodafone account details and said it would be due for an upgrade so dont bother with repair, but then they said she could get a better phone by switching to 3 so she took them up on that offer. We just got back home and called vodafone to get a PAC code so the number can be ported and they said that it will cost £130+ to leave as there are 6 months left on the contract.
So where do we stand? The CPW salesperson advised to switch but said nothing about the fee involved in leaving vodafone - but they must have known there as time to run on the contract (I suspect they get no comission on an upgrade but do get some on a new contract)
Unfortunately I put the new 3 SIM in the new phone as advised by the salesperson prior to calling vodafone to cancel the previous contract - I think that might have locked us in. I am so angry with them - is there anything we can do?
Cheers.

I think that if you have the CPW insurance, you can end your contract early if you hand back the phone. Of course I don't think it's anything to do with the fact that CPW don't do Voda anymore, and they wouldn't be able to upgrade you... ;-)
However I thought you had to hand the phone back & it be in working order, and I'm pretty sure there's no way to get your PAC as CPW basically just pay off the contract for you. You really need to go back to the store - it could be that CPW think you're on a 12 month contract, but Voda have it as 18 months?0 -

"said it would be due for an upgrade so dont bother with repair"
suggests they did not say it IS due .... did they?0 -
They did say the other day it could be upgraded but the system was so slow they couldnt get the upgrade offer through or something like that. The guy we saw the other day was supposed to be ordering a replacement phone for the broken one. When she went in today they sold her a new phone & contract and took the old broken phone as £20 trade-in for which they sold her a memory card!? So she cant even use her old voda number in the mean time as they took the old handset (it was a intermittent fault on the screen so could still take calls) and the 3 phone is locked to 3 SIMs
They said we had to ring up vodafone to cancel/get PAC, then call up 3 to port the number. Nothing was mentioned about anybody paying off the voda contract.
I *think* what might have happened is earlier in the year voda phoned up with a new tariff offer which would have reset the contract term :rolleyes:0 -
luckily CPW just cancelled the new contract when we went in this morning - although it took ages as their system was down (as it always seems to be whenever I have gone in there!). Back to where we were last week now but at least there are no contract issues to deal with.0
