The joys of 3rd world problems and modern motoring🙂
I get a warm glow when I can drive from the supermarket petrol pump to a parking space without being nagged to clip in a seat belt😇
    3rd world problems?

I'm not getting how the stop/start is triggering for you at give way junctions.
In a manual car, the Stop/start should only operate when when the car is very close to stopping with the car in neutral and the clutch out.
This is not normal driving behaviour at junctions.

Eh? Car in neutral and foot on brake pedal is not normal behaviour at junctions? What, then, is?
    No, it's not.
At a give way junction, there's no way neutral should ever be in the scenario - you should be ready go (gear engaged, clutch in).
As an aside though, your stop/start shouldn't trigger unless the clutch is released in neutral.
And neutral with the clutch released is definitely odd at a give way junction. :)
If your S/S is triggering in neutral with the clutch pressed, that's something I've never ever come across and I drive more cars than most.

Sigh. You've clearly not tried to join the A39 on a fast stretch. Sit there in gear with clutch depressed? For how many minutes, exactly...
Well it's going to take even longer if you're sitting with the clutch out in neutral, isn't it....

This sort of thing is the main reason why I'm keen to hang on to my ageing car.  I just don't think I could put up with all the politically correct features that hamper new ones.

Yes the start/stop features in cars can be useful for economy if you drive in areas with traffic jams, but I do sympathise in situations as you describe. Let's be clear; one of the main reasons this technology is integrated into cars is trying to meet emissions regulations. The dealership won't disable it because they are basically not allowed to do so, and that's also why the default is always set to on, each time you turn on the car. Otherwise the bureaucrats wouldn't count it in the emissions testing.

On my VW there is a similar feature, but thankfully there is a specific button on the dash to disable it when appropriate. I haven't done it myself, but I understand there is a switch you can buy and fit to the wiring which essentially remembers the last command, so it doesn't turn back on again each time you start up. But given yours appears to be commanded via a touchscreen computer that may not be an option.

My Skoda has a button to switch start stop off. You need to switch it on again if you want it.

..yes but you have to remember to turn it off every time you start a new trip.

I'm with the OP, stop/start is largely a con to allow manufacturers to meet some arbitrary emissions target, and for me is also a pain in the proverbial, (I always turn it off if I remember).
Same as electronic handbrake, a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Just something else to go wrong as the car gets older.

    .."It's everybody's fault but mine...."

Listen, pal... I sits there, yeah? Watching the traffic. Reasonable gap appears from t'right. Glance at left - small gap - which might possibly coincide - appears to the left. Clutch down, 1st gear, foot on t'brake, get reeaaadddyyy...... Nope. No safe gap. Neutral again, clutch up...

    Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

If the car engine stops and starts each time I go through this, I'll have added a week's wear to the starter, as well as annoy the pants off me.

  • Too much technology. Citroen should work on getting electric windows to last more than 4 years before they need fixing. And then maybe move onto other stuff. I dread to think the repair bills that used car buyers are going to have over the next 10 years.

I come on here to air my grievances, and you come along all boasty like... :-(

Mil's much newer Twingo has a physical button too - so it's always off.

Yes, I understand it's emissions-based and not necessarily economy. And I absolutely appreciate the move should it make a difference in towns and cities - I like fresh air as much as anyone else.

    But, rural? It's nuts, man.
