Shell Broadband Price: Is price increase valid after email confirming no price rise?

In November I called Shell to confirm price after my contract ended in January and was told there was no price increase. Then on 8th December I received an email stating it would go up by a £1.Then on 8th January I had an email stating my current price of £23.99 would remain after my contract ended on the 23d January. Therefore surely the latter email is the most recent contract and should be the price I pay? I tried querying with them and have put in a complaint but has anyone else had this and complained? Or am I wrong? They say the December email is valid.
