Gas Boiler Replacement

Anyone have any recommendations to replace Gas Combi Boiler which 15+ years old ? Assume no gov.UK grants are available, would like to pay monthly and have a good branded replacement.

Better to borrow the money elsewhere and employ a local GSR RGI than restrict yourself to the nationals who are able to offer you credit facilitie-at a price of course...
Worcester-Bosch, Vaillant and Viessmann are generally considered the premium brands in the market.

There is not much time to get on the scheme, but if you can it might well be worth looking at installing a heat-pump with two thirds or more funded by the Green Home Grants scheme. The install cost would be higher, but the grant would actually make it cheaper overall.

Even those who already have heat pumps installed would mostly have had a gas boiler if it was available..
I highly doubt that by the time you've included the cost of modifying the rest of the heating system for the lower water temperature that it would ever be cheaper than a boiler replacement....

Are you in any benefits ? If so there is the eco3 grant but it’s proving a nightmare to get

You do not need a gas boiler if you have a heat pump and two thirds of the cost is covered by the grant (total cost is around £10-12k), if you are in receipt of certain benefits, anything disability based or certain elements of UC where you can still have a reasonable income then the grant will pay 100% of the cost, many people fall into that category due to Covid at the moment.

Or the OP could have a replacement gas boiler fitted for c £1000 and gas price of roughly 2.35p kwh, is always going to be a winner with most people as oppose to expensive heat pump system

That still doesn't make a heat pump a great solution if you have access to gas...
Especially if you already have radiators in place as they will almost certainly have to be replaced with a heat pump solution.
£1,500-2000 or there about for a simple and quick boiler replacement is almost always going to be a better option.

If he is eligible for a 100% grant for a heat pump then i can understand why its a maybe
But if not, then a boiler change will be about 2k, no point going down the 10-12k route!

not sure about grants, but in terms of replacing your boiler its worth getting a few quotes from local gas engineers (use checkatrade to search them) and make sure they are "gas safe registered". They will be able to look at your whole heating setup and give you advice on what is actually required. Generally they will give a good price too.

If it is JUST a boiler change, I have used boxt, and was very happy with their service. They are a national company that use local fitters to do the installation. They should have some sort of finance plan available, but like macman said it may be cheaper to get a loan out elsewhere (e.g. your bank) to finance it than doing it on "finance", check the numbers.

I've also had a boiler done by british gas in the past. AVOID. They are massively overpriced, will include an overpriced powerflush and no guarantee what quality of fitter they send. (the actual boiler installation for me was fine, not the "cleanest" but the boiler has worked for 20 years!)

In terms of brands, you'll see worcester bosch fitted very commonly. Although a (inter)national company i'd prob stick with a vaillant.

And then there's the cost of bringing the building up to 'Scandinavian' standards of draught-proofing and insulation to make the whole thing viable . .
