Sebastian, is this a very old PC that doesn't have native wifi?
Assuming it's a desktop and not a laptop, not many new desktops have "native" WiFi.

not sure if it is crap virgin WiFi
    or the dongle

Knowing what the dongle is might help also assumed it was a plugin rather than wifi card but maybe wrong..

Also we have pc is new windows 10 and the router has changed

not clear what order or how old any of this is.

I think my hub 3 came with both 2.4 and 5 enabled.

Really. Seems strange to me just because its so ubiquitous. Mine does and is 6 months old but is a Mac.

Not strange at all. Majority of PCs sold for use in office locations will have an Ethernet network adapater and no WiFi adapter. WiFi doesn't make sense in situations where you have many users with static devices in one location with moderate bandwidth requirements.

First question: Is your WiFi dongle listed in Windows device manager? Can your PC see *any* wireless networks?
Also, can you install a WiFi analyser app on your phone, open it and pop it close to your PC. What kind of signal strength do you see for you WiFi network near to your PC?

    Thanks
