Window things to keep my home office cool?

I've converted a back bedroom into a home office. Lovely in winter - nice and ward, desk overlooking the window into the back yard/garden.
But in the summer, the room is in direct sunlight for most of day and well into the evening. Because I also live in a terrace with a side return, the heat seems to gather in that area and there is very little breeze.
When the room was a bedroom I just used to keep the windows and curtains at the rear of the house closed in the summer which kept it cooler.
But I'm not wanting to be working in there in the dark all summer - can't sit outside in the garden because of confidentiality with my phone calls.
So I'm looking for suggestions as to blinds/voiles which will be effective in keeping the heat out but not make the room too dark.
The window frame is UPVC and I'm not wanting anything that has to screw directly into that.
It's also a window that tilts to open because it's the escape window.
Any suggestions?
I don't want to look at air conditioner unit or fans if I can possibly help it because the noise irritates me when I am working. I prefer quiet when I work.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Heat reflective window film?1

Thanks but that wouldn't that block the view all the time?
I like a spot of bird watching on the cooler days/times.

No, you can get them which are like a mirror.elsien said:Thanks but that wouldn't that block the view all the time?

you can get roller or pleated blinds which will clip over your upvc window edge.

External sun shade that you can lower in summer and roll up in winter?1

I'm not a great fan of Venetian blinds as they are dust collectors but they would be effective at doing what you need. You can angle the slats to stop the direct sunlight but still allow plenty of light through. They will also allow air through if you open the window. Vertical blinds might do it depending on the angle and direction of the sun.1

Second vote for that. I had reflective window film fitted and it made quite a difference to how hit my how office gets (similar aspect to yours by the sound of it). It makes it slightly darker in the room, but not a problem if you have decent lighting.coffeehound said:Heat reflective window film?"We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein2 -
Another benefit of this is no one outside will see you, ahem, 'bird watching'theonlywayisup said:

Perfect fit blinds, available as both roller and venetian, they clip into the frame and cover only the glass. Window can be opened as normal.
Or an outside canopy above the window to shade it from the sun.1 -

The gentle shade of an electric roller and the quiet indoor unit of this split system will provide ideal working conditions. The Sun canopy idea is a good call, or a wind-out
