All boxes and cartons need to be opened and checked before signing. Regrettably you now have a battle on your hands. Please keep us all posted on the outcome.

The box could have contained half a dozen house bricks. Who would believe you?

There was a spate of brick parcels some years ago. Courier firms soon cracked the case. :)  Still can happen.

Many years ago I accepted a carton/parcel that had been in a flood, (caused by heavy rain at the depot), the courier had hidden the carton from view as I signed. It took 3 months to resolve.

If you're expecting a delivery you need to be prepared to carry out a full inspection before signing.

    Good luck.
    Absolute rubbish.
No courier is going to stand on the doorstep whilst you open a box and check the contents.
And when was the last time anybody actually signed for a delivery?

As much as everyone around here hates them (and so do I but not just instore) currys have insisted upon opening every tv I have ever had delivered and inspecting it (and showing it to me) before leaving. It takes under a minute so why would they not.

I guess they probably are not at the moment. Though they did bring my new washing machine into the house and remove the old one so maybe they might.

Either way, if you are not going to check things and report damage within 2 minutes then refuse the delivery as you don't have the time for it either. Things like say, a complete kitchen would just get a box count and outside box checks. But to get something with a dmanaged box and not check it there and then? Madness. (and if you do not have the 5 seconds to check the box....)

That may well be because the delivery was carried out by Curry's own people and not by a third party courier company so it's in their own interests to make sure that what they have delivered is undamaged.
In general, couriers simply want to deliver the package and get to their next drop off address as soon as possible.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone - my apologies for not having replied sooner.

After reporting the damaged TV on the Saturday night via the company's live chat (which logged the complaint), they were quick to reply to me on the Monday morning and agreed to a full refund (with, surprisingly, no questions asked). DPD uplifted the TV on the Tuesday, and a little over a week later, the full amount we had paid was returned to our bank account.

As I mentioned earlier, a lesson learned!

Actually the OP's retailer sounds quite reasonable.

    Winfield - who were they?
