Their fruit and veg lasts so much better then any other supermarket I have been to. Which is essential in this house where we may occasionaly *forget* it's there!!

Have a look round Waitrose and see the nice things, but remember, you could use the money to *save* from your normal shopping bill too....(as Martin himself advised on Jeremy Vine on Friday!!)

    Have fun though!!!

I love Waitrose, but my nearest is some distance. I love their 'spelt' bread. I do most of my shopping on line as I hate going round supermarkets. I just might have a look at that supermarket comparison site mentioned by Martin on Tonight programme and see just how much extra Waitrose would be.

There has been a little friction about 'affording' Waitrose produce. IMHO Martins philosophy is to get what you want for the cheapest price. As someone on the threshold of my bus pass, I want to get as much cash in the bank as I can in readiness for my retirement. We are debt and mortgage free - because of our age. I wish I had had my lightbulb moment 10 years ago!

There are people on all the rungs of the money ladder who use and contribute to this site, but we all have in common that we want to get the best value for our money that we can.
  • I'm another Waitrose fan. I've found the "reduced fairy" is incredibly generous at Waitrose, especially on a Thursday evening! I've had some fantastic meals for pennies, and tried loads of new things I wouldn't have bothered with at full price. I must also second those who say the wine & spirits dept is second to none for a supermarket. My faves - sloe gin, somerset pomona (a type of aperitif based on apples, like pommeau in France - and it comes with a lovely Pre-Raphaelite label too), and brilliant prosecco. Storecupboard faves are good too - proper Puy lentils, Wilkins jams, thai curry ingredients, posh vinegars and pickles, and white peach puree in a squeezy bag for Bellini cocktails which is a standard christmas breakfast thing in our house - half white peach puree, half prosecco. Utterly gorgeous.
