To the OP, this is unfortunately common with British houses so unless you can afford a much better one you might have to live with it.0 -

I look back at how many years of my life were effectively "lost" because of these cretins. Police/Council will buck pass one to the other resulting in little, if anything, being done to help you. Sell as fast as you can, by whatever method you can.
I declared the dispute on the property questionnaire but the Buyer was adamant that he wouldn't experience the same problem and it didn't affect the sale price. In other words, there is always someone bigger and tougher, who will stand up to selfish scum. Yes, you will have to declare the dispute but you still might find a Buyer, who is willing to deal with things in their own way. Life is nothing if you're miserable. Sell up and leave. Find somewhere with better, decent neighbours. All the best.2 -
Unfortunately Murphy, because often it IS tenants who are the issue - unfortunately not all tenants are good ones like I presume you are, and sometimes they simply don’t care about either the property itself (because they know the long term costs of repair will fall to someone else) or relations with the neighbours (because they have the luxury of simply being able to move on with minimal costs if they choose). Neither of these are positions that a homeowner benefit from. I suspect that in a lot of cases it’s not so much an assumption as a statement of fact from personal experiences. Of course it can go the other way too - but it’s realistically always going to be less likely because of the financial stake the owner has.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I think the problem is attitudes.I'm paying rent / bought this house so I can do what I like and have every right to do so.I guess in rentals when it's up to someone else to sort out the repair work / clean cake off the walls of communal areas it's easier when its not your problem and you ignore that others are inconvenienced.May you find your sister soon Helli.

Homeowners.... renters.... some people are just 4rse'oles.
We bought this semi in the summer, next door bought theirs a few months before. They are inconsiderate screaming heathen scum, and I was sorry we moved here after about 3 hours. (It may turn into it's own thread, given time.)
Given it's been so long, I wonder what the OP did (if anything)...?Why does Sherlock Holmes love Mexican restaurants? Because they give him case ideas.1 -

There is an entire area of our town we refused point blank to look in because it's well known that the houses built there in the past 40 years have all had the paper thin walls issue.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
