Santander 123 - Pending transactions show in the app but not desktop website

Wondering if anyone here on the development side of any bank's online portal has a take on this.

On the Santander website you see the current balance, and balance incl. pending. But you don't see the pending transaction.
Worse, you don't see it in "View pending payments and transfers".
However on the mobile app you do see the transaction.

For example. I made a debit card payment yesterday - fairly substantial. The website shows the current and pending balance, but not the transaction:

The phone app shows the transaction in the usual list.
Any ideas why the desktop site is much less functional than the app?  Are other banks the same?

It’s always been like this in all my 12 years of having a Santander account internet banking has never shown pending transactions, but does via the mobile app.

HSBC is the only one I’ve found to show pending transactions via internet banking and also via the app. HSBC also shows pending payments in and also pending payments out.

Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

I have recently switched to Santander for their 'lite' account and was notified today that I needed to pay funds in as payments were due to be taken today. No clue as to what these payments are or for how much. I've looked on the app and website but there's nothing. Being as I've very recently switched and have moved additional DDs to this account it wouldn't be easy to work out which direct debit(s) they are referring to.

The available balance is the same as the total balance so that doesn't help but to be on the safe side I've moved £1,500 there which would easily cover any direct debit I have. This will cost me a grand total of 14p interest so I'm fine with that but am I missing something? Is there another place I can look to see pending payments?

Going forward I'll just leave a £500 balance there to cover anything but it would be good to know if there's a way I can find out what's due to leave.

Unfortunately Santander 123lite does not pay interest. It is our Hub account and we keep a minimal balance in ours which means manually checking the standing orders and direct debits for the month in advance and setting up advance payments from our easy access savings account to cover the outgoings. We also have a £200 overdraft facility. If your pending payments are 0, then you have to check SO`s and DD`S due to go out. Later today, once the payment has completed, you can any excess back to your interest bearing account.

Thanks. Having looked at my DDs on the desktop website I can see that around £75 is marked as going out today and I didn't have sufficient in there to pay it. I've just rechecked my calculation on interest earned on £1,500 in my savings account and I clearly mistyped earlier as it's less than 3p. I'm not going to bother returning the excess to my savings account today for that amount. I need to pay a credit card later this week so I'll just leave it earning nothing until then.

Unfortunately Santander 123lite does not pay interest. .

But they pay cashback, which should be more than the £2 fee for the Lite. If your DDs don't yield that much, then downgrading to the Everyday would make sense.

The companies you have authorised to take money by DD will have told you in advance how much they take when. Many do this on a monthly basis, some only if the originally agreed amount changes. You should keep a list of the DDs you have authorised, with amount and due date. I keep/update mine in my personal finance software, together with SOs, ad-hoc payments, and incoming payments.

I do know roughly how much I pay to each company every month but I wasn't entirely sure which ones I'd moved to Santander. The ones I moved are those which will earn cashback to offset the fee but before I'd been pointed in the direction of the list on the Santander website it would have involved looking through all of my other accounts to see which ones were due but had yet to be taken.

I check every account every day so whilst a list of the DD details is broadly a good idea I don't feel it necessary for my needs.

Your decision, obviously, though it's a bit like saying "I drive every day on different roads, and I always look in the rear view mirror so I know where I have been".

You can see a list of authorised payments (DDs) in the app. Login, open the account then press the three dots top right. Last menu option is Manage direct debits. It's a little bit basic as you can only see when it was last paid, and how much was paid. For contrast if I look at a list of DDs on the Lloyds app it tells me when each DD is next due to be paid. Assuming it's a monthly DD, then it at least gives you a clue as it should be paid around the same date (weekends and BHs allowing).

All banks, Lloyds included, can only guess when the DD is due next. It might be an educated guess, e.g. utilities and phone bills are probably due monthly, but it still remains a guess. The only ones who can actually know are yourself and the company you gave a DD mandate to.

It’s absolutely nothing like that. I know that my gas/electric DD is, for example £75. I see that amount leaving my account and I know all is well. If I’m not sure of the amount I can very easily scroll back to the previous amount debited in seconds to confirm.

I can see that double checking against a list, however kept, would be attractive for some people and that’s absolutely fine but that doesn’t mean that everyone will feel that that’s beneficial.
