Karndean (vinyl) flooring throughout ground floor? Downsides?

Thinking of replacing the carpet throughout the ground floor of the house with Karndean flooring (or similar luxury vinyl flooring). But I'm wondering whether it will be cold or noisy. Has anyone else replaced all their carpet with this type of flooring and, if so, what are your thoughts? Are there any other downsides that I should be aware of? I don't want to make an expensive mistake.

It's not cold or noisy.. but is harder on your feet. It's so easy to clean though.. and if you have pets who have "accidents" it's great.

It's not cold and it's not noisy.

Our current house has underfloor heating but our last was a draughty 1930s house with a mix of solid and suspended floor and the LVT (not Karndean but the same type of product) improved the temperature of the floor.

It doesn't make a noise.  It's glued down and there's nothing to echo.  My husband is like an elephant.

I've had every type of floor over the many houses we've lived in and LVT has been the best, hands down.  Hard wearing, practical, and warm.  It's also relatively easy to replace a tile if one does get damaged, but if a floor can stand up to my family, it can stand up to anyone's!

We've built our own house and have Amtico through most of it.  It's only the stairs and our bedroom that will be carpeted (when I can sensibly choose a carpet).  Lockdown hasn't been all that kind to getting the house finished.

Before too long we will be having the whole of our downstairs done in LVT. It is currently a mix of vinyl in the kitchen diner and loo and carpet in the hallway and living room. LVT will be so much easier to keep clean with having the dog.
  • We had it through the ground floor of our old house, I miss it now!! So easy to keep clean, much harder wearing than laminate, and we didn’t find it cold or noisy. I’d live to redo our current house with it.

Thanks for the comments guys, very reassuring  . My other half convinced me that floor tiles in the cloakroom would be a great idea and I just find them cold and uninviting so was concerned that the LVT would be similar.  I'll book an appointment to look over some samples.

we have Karndean all downstairs - apart from the kitchen, but will get this done too when re-done. No regrets. It is not noisy at all. A bit colder than carpet, obviously, but not as cold as other hard floor types.

Not this house, but we previously fitted karndean throughout the reception rooms in a previous house and the kitchen of another. No issues with noise or feeling too cold.

I've just ordered samples for our (yet to be built) extension here which will be a reception room, as well as for the existing hallway.....

  • It's obviously going to feel colder to your bare feet than carpet will, but it won't affect the temperature of the house.  It'll also be noisier to walk on than carpet if you wear shoes inside the house.
That said, I replaced the whole ground floor carpets with LVT and am very happy with it.  I feel it's cleaner and I have large rugs in each room so feet can still feel cosy.

We had karndene flooring in our kitchen when we had a new kitchen fitted, it’s not a large area and I was quite surprised just how warm it feels underfoot, even in bare feet

We replaced the cracked and chilly tiles in the kitchen with Amtico last year, and it is so much warmer underfoot. I've just ordered a bunch of samples of different types of wood effect Amtico to do the hall and living room parquet style, these rooms are presently covered in rather battered laminate which I personally find really cold, and I can't wait to get shot of it!

(I'm wondering if I could persuade the OH to do the bedrooms too... but they're carpeted and it might be a bridge too far)
