Just have one put in, christ, what's the big deal?
Because its grossly inconvenient and energy providers forcefully box ticking on behalf of the gov. Not to mention whos paying for it in hidden costs.

It's not inconvenient and who do you think paid for the currently installed meters? You know, the meters that are coming up to end of life, the exact reason why new meters were developed

May not be inconvenient for you, but you can't speak for everyone else.
Existing meters didn't cost £475 per household.
They weren't developed because existing meters are about to become life expired.  They were developed to bring in Demand Side Response, as the government website admits.
  • I would love to have smart meters.
Save a lot of faffing about every month.
    Bring them on !!

It is inconvenient are you going to pay for my 6 weeks downtime, not everyones like you. Some of us will not bow down and forcefully take it on a whim with no benefits or money savings.
You mean the same meters scrapped needlessly, replaced with high costs muggins has to pay for.

It's not a massive innovation for those of us that check out meters regularly and submit readings. But for the vast majority of people who ignore their meters and end up relying on estimates smart meters are a massive benefit.

I really don't get the "muggins has to pay for it" argument. Yeah we will be indirectly paying for it, but whether you take one or not, you're still going to pay so it's not really a valid argument for not taking one. The government have decided this is the way forward so we aren't going to stop it.

Lest you run away with the notion that everyone else is just 'bowing down' for no benefits, I actively sought out the quickest way to get smart meters installed and have saved hundreds of pounds since I was able to get them.
You may feel they offer no value to you and personally it makes no difference to me how long you resist the inevitable, as they will become compulsory at some point in the future, but they do enable savings to be made if you are willing to engage with the services that make use of them and it would be wrong to pretend otherwise...

Forgive me if I'm wrong but the majority of posts that I see on here begin something like "Help! I have a massive bill that I cannot pay" Then page after page to establish what we already knew, being people not reading meters and updating their suppliers, These posts are not posted by people with smart meters!

Wouldn't it be better if those posts were replaced with "Help! how can I reduce my bill" I have a smart meter?

    Just a thought

    You are forgiven :)
You can only access tariffs like Octopus Agile if you have a smart meter, using that tariff and a few insights from being able to easily monitor use at any particular moment, I have made large savings year on year.
Those resisting smart meters are quick to point at the future negative possibilities but continue to fail to realise the current positives.
