Got an email from Bulb saying they are upgrading their meters and to book a date for installation. They make it sound like a done deal. I don't want a smart meter - not with Bulb anyway. Can they insist? I'm on E7. Plus we have a poor mobile signal here and the neighbours next door have been told by their supplier that they can't have a smart meter for this reason. Cheers

They will not fit a smart meter unless a connection can be established with the DCC. If Bulb is telling you that your meter has reached its end-of-life then the Government (BEIS) agreed in Jun 2020 that suppliers can fit smart meters without consumer consent,  or if they have still have a stock of non smart meters, and they agree to fit one, they can charge you for doing so.

I have had SMETS2 meters now for 20 months. They work and I know, for example, that I have used £39.18 of gas so far this month. I can also access cheaper smart meter only tariffs. Why pay more for energy than you need to?

You're shielding, aren't you?  Can't be too careful.
Tell Bulb to stay at home.

The email says 'We’re replacing traditional meters with smart meters as part of the nationwide upgrade to the energy system'. Which suggests to me this is not an end of life issue?

I had an email from them (prior to moving to YE in 2020, prior to being dumped with SP). Just ignore them (or tell them you may be moving if they phone?)
