New TV not new ?

Hi I purchased a new TV,or so i thought, from a reputable shopping store ordered online and picked up from store the same day. After paying to have it mounted onto the wall the fitter was flicking through the channels and we noticed that channels such as BBC I PLAYER had a profile set for PAUL..not my name. NETFLIX opens up with a whole families profiles and the same with NOW TV. It seems obvious to me that this TV must have been owned by someone else. So my questions are..
Shouldn't I have been informed it was used goods.
Shouldn't the TV have been checked and wiped of personal information
My concern is why it was returned in the 1st place ie fault etc.
Thanks in advance

Hisense Roku 50 inch Smart TvSomeones bought it, used it and then decided they didn't like it. Packaged it back up and gone back to the store saying "I've bought this but never used it, can I return it please."As to the parts in bold, how would a store do that if they have been told the item has never been used?

That's amazing value.Bear67_2 said:we noticed that channels such as BBC I PLAYER had a profile set for PAUL..not my name. NETFLIX opens up with a whole families profiles and the same with NOW TV.
You don't get many TVs with free Netflix, Now TV and a TV licence all bundled in.4 -
Get in tough with the retailer and either return it for a new one or negotiate some money off this one.2

So your saying it's ok to sell goods as new when in fact its 2nd hand or usedpowerful_Rogue said:Bear67_2 said:Hi I purchased a new TV,or so i thought, from a reputable shopping store ordered online and picked up from store the same day. So you get free NETFLIX and NOW TV.
If it was returned saying it was never used why would they think there wa personal information to remove. they sold it believing it was unused.
Also, if they had done that you would not know it had been used previously.
Now that you do know you can contact them about it.1 -
No, he's not saying that, he's describing the probable course of events that ended up with you buying it.Bear67_2 said:

The ball's in your court. You can delete the accounts and use the TV, or contact the retailer and insist they do something about it.2 -
I assume the resolution you want is that you take it back to the shop, they go out the back, factory reset the TV and bring it back out to you and tell you its new again?
Or offer you a "new" one which quite likely has been through the same procedure.
Might be quicker for you to just factory reset it yourself. If you've got concerns it's been used for a while and would prefer a replacement (which may or may not have been a wiped return), box up again and take back to store. You might get a bit of a refund /discount for your troubles.

Ok just to say that I already subscribe to Netflix..the NOW TV runs out in 2 days and I already pay for a TV licence so to say im getting something for nothing is wrong..my beef is that I have recieved a used TV that I presumed was new as advertised but I will leave it there as the replies seem to lean towards the retailer. Thanks anyway0

I don’t think the replies are leaning towards the retailer, it’s just being stated as the fact it is, that this is what happens when people are dishonest. If the previous owner had returned the TV and said that it had been used for a couple of days and they’d set it up, it’s unlikely that they would have got the full amount of their money back. So they returned it saying that it had never been used, hence how you have now got a second hand TV.Bear67_2 said:Ok just to say that I already subscribe to Netflix..the NOW TV runs out in 2 days and I already pay for a TV licence so to say im getting something for nothing is wrong..my beef is that I have recieved a used TV that I presumed was new as advertised but I will leave it there as the replies seem to lean towards the retailer. of course, there is the possibility that it is the retailer who has been dishonest (or just made a mess of things) by putting used returned stock into new stock and you’ve got it that way.
But I agree with you, if I by a new product, I don’t expect someone else to have used that product before me and so I would be complaining to the retailer. In my view, the box should still be factory sealed but I know others will disagree with that.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j5
