Are best offers a way around excluded locations?

Hi.

I had an offer on an item I am selling. I sell to the UK only and, I double checked, all other locations are blocked.

However, I had an offer from a buyer whose profile states they come from a country outside of the UK and the post to address was in another country, also outside of the UK.

Does putting in an offer get around the restrictions or should they should never have been able to offer?

Thanks.

They can't get round your blocks, but I find I get a lot of offers via GSP buyers, it is likely to be that I suspect.

I don't use the GSP though. I looked into it years ago, but read a lot of bad stories and based on what I mostly sell it didn't make sense to bother with it.

In that case I don't know what happens if you accept their offer, sorry.

I use GSP a lot, I'm very happy with the system , I find it very easy and it does generate a fair percentage of sales.

I offer free postage and it's Ebay so I imagine a massive headache is what I'd get! Lol

I once sent an item to a UK address and it was a place where they then send it to the buyer in another country. Only time I have ever had an issue and it was stressful. If I were a business seller I may consider the GSP, but I'm not so I'm sticking to UK only. I am hoping it was just a glitch in the system.

I declined the offer. Buyer has been blocked because wherever they actually live it is certainly not in the UK.

GSP doesn't affect your shipping costs at all, much of mine has free postage and I just send it to the ebay hub, not to a third party shipper, once it arrives at ebay it becomes their responsibility should it get lost. I had 3 lost last year, ebay just refunded them and it didn't affect me at all.

Many buyers especially in Russia and the Far east also use the third party shippers and we can't block those but I agree they can be problematic , I do get a slight sinking feeling when I see a unit at Heathrow, or on the Centurion Estate knowing it is going to be shipped on. However, again as long as you have POD at the address you are covered against an INR, but it becomes a bit time consuming if it gets broken and buyer mistakenly thinks seller has to pay to get item back from wherever it was sent, when in fact we are only responsible for costs of return from the UK address. Also hidden in the paypal agreement damage isn't actually covered if seller can show the item was sent on to a different address, it's just time consuming pursuing that approach.  Luckily I get very few of these sales now, probably because they have switched to GSP.

    Yeah. GPS has good points.

I don't think it's right that buyers can get around the rules with third party shippers. I know some will have a valid reason for using them and be good buyers, but I exclude other locations for a good reason. The majority of buyers outside of the UK wouldn’t be able to use the items I sell most so blocking them saves us both time and money, rather than them wanting to return items because they haven't read the listing properly or not realised it will be useless to them.
  • Could the buyer have registered in another country (like me) but bid on the .co.uk version?
Could the buyer be in another country but wanting to buy for a friend/relative in the UK?

Possibly, but their feedback suggests not. Doesn't explain how they were able to offer either as the address stated was outside of the UK.

The possibility that they are using a 3rd party freight forwarding service still exists then as the delivery address will show as the UK.

A secondary address which is UK?

Well either way, glad I could decline and block because they're clearly not in the UK. Annoying that people can get around restrictions like that. I imagine many wouldn't check or notice the locations, only the price offered.
