Samsung 5g plus rear broken

Hi, my under one month old Samsung 5g plus rear glass has smashed - only just noticed. I remember dropping it once whilst in the Spigen case which didn't absorb the pressure. I thought they made one of the best cases, clearly not. Terrible build quality.
Not sure best route now to repair...it's obviously under warranty, plus covered by contents insurance I assume... should I go this route or get a replacement glass backing - not sure where to find a genuine one - and get a phone repair shop to do it?

If you don’t have it repaired by a Samsung approved repairer then you warranty will be void. Best to check whether you covered by your insurance and ask which repairers they use.1

If you are talking about the galaxy s21 5g plus then I think the back is 'glasstic' and should be simple to replace - have you googled it?1

You can get a price from Samsung but damage is chargeable its not covered by warranty .

Yes, apparently the back is "plastic". My A71 has their "glasstic" back, possibly the same material which is plastic made to give the appearance of glass. Why the o.p. writes that the "rear glass has smashed" is not clear (pardon the pun). I haven't dropped mine, yet, but it might give the impression of smashed glass if it does receive damage as a result , no idea.I've never understood this obsession about a phone having glass back covering supposedly making it "more premium". Yes, it is more scratch resistant but more prone to smash than plastic?Full credit to the o.p. for admitting they dropped it though.

It's the S10 5g.
Tbh, I've never had to use a manufacturer warranty on any phone. I usually keep for 2-3 years and sell on.
I've found on eBay genuine glass backings for around £30 and a local repair will replace for £15. I'm tempted to go this route as no doubt Samsung will charge me 3-figures and want the phone sending off etc. Big hassle. And don't want to claim on home insurance. Seen a Samsung case on Amazon for £17 (looking at the back of my Spigen - one layer looks to be peeling off likely from impact).
Only thing is - my backing is silver. This was my 2nd choice, my first was the black backing but was slightly more expensive.
So I've found A Grade black backings. Only issue is when I sell the phone with box in 2-3 years, I'll need to explain the discrepancy (Plus it'll lose some water resistance with the gluing of the new backing)... then again, it'll be a second hand phone worth around £100-150 by then so likely buyers won't care as much.0 -
The S10 5G is a good phone - excellent really - but prices are dropping like a stone and it is definitely not worth paying much to fix it. Silly question but why fix the back anyway - presumably any case you buy will cover it up?
If it were me I would not spend a penny on it unless I absolutely had to.1 -
Because the glass is weakened now and at one section where several broken lines join, I can feel tiny glass fibres coming off which is not Safe or nice. It will need to get fixed at some point anyway, so why delay. If it drops again it may not survive a second time. I think I paid around 400 so I'd rather get it sorted.pbartlett said:The S10 5G is a good phone - excellent really - but prices are dropping like a stone and it is definitely not worth paying much to fix it. OP - Your post should be 'Can I sue/ blame Spigen/ Amazon'. How dare you admit dropping it!oldagetraveller1 said:pbartlett said:If you are talking about the galaxy s21 5g plus then I think the back is 'glasstic' and should be simple to replace - have you googled it?I just had to check! I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.1 -

Seriously though, bit of a demented comment (no offence) because (and I've no way tried to blame anyone here at any point bring up the topic) if Spigen claim to protect against shocks and drops, and I drop my phone from hip height from the pocket, and it shatters the back, either the phone is s++t or the protection is s&&t- let's face it, humans occasionally drop stuff, even exemplar in his old exemplary age.0
