I was responding to the unqualified statement "it's only advice not to leave the house".
That was my point really , the OP has been advised not to leave the house due to being vulnerable (or so I understood from the OP) , shielding is only advice it is not legally defined as it is for quarantine or lockdown. Even in tier 4 I would have thought taking children to school would be allowed unless you have been told you must quarantine after having had a positive covid test.

  • I work in a school and I cant speak for your child’s school but from a school perspective our sanitising is unbelievable and we have had only 9 cases out of 700 children and 100 staff.
Technically it is unlikely you will be prosecuted if you don’t send them but bare in mind they will miss education and normalcy which I think they really need.
As long as you ingrain hand hygiene and get them to change straight out of their clothes when they come home, as well as always wearing the mask, then I think the risk is much much lower.
I have worked in the school around children throughout, I’ve had good hand hygiene and worn ppe and I have not had Covid.

I hope this brings you some reassurance X

You need to differentiate between shielding which is what is being discussed and lockdown, they are not the same.
Shielding instructions are purely voluntary and they talk about leaving the house, not the area. We are not talking about the general lockdown rules.
Apart from which, taking your child to school is a reasonable excuse under the general lockdown rules

Exception 2 to the basic rule treats leaving the house to take a child to school as reasonably necessary.

The legislation specifically states "Tier 4" in it, but as I pointed out in my earlier post, the whole of England is in Tier 4. Technically we are still in a tier system. It's just that there's only one sort of tier.

    Tiers don’t exist anymore.

This is guidance which has been withdrawn because it is no longer relevant. National lockdown was created by amending The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (All Tiers) (England) Regulations 2020, and treating the whole of England as Tier 4. Read the legislation if you don't believe me:

Yes the country is in National Lockdown which uses the tier 4 rules as their basis.
The country is not in Tier 4 as tiering no longer applies.
It was a lot easier to use existing legislation than create a new one that duplicates part of an existing one.
