What are the rules on this?
A (single) parent (newly) shielding (working full time from home) & the kids going back to school.
Are they supposed to return or stay off?

"Children who live with someone who is clinically extremely vulnerable, but aren’t themselves, should still attend school"

  • Lots of shielding parents had this back in September.  The children are still supposed to attend school.
  • You must be terrified. You could try writing to your MP but it probably won't help.

    You must be terrified.
    Why?
Newly shielding means that hey have coped for nearly a year with the risks. Deciding that somebody should shield under the new guidance does not increase that risk.

Shielding finishes 3 weeks after they go back to school anyway.
TBH as CEV from day 1, I don't see shielding being extended any more. I was disappointed when it was re-introduced as I was looking to get back to the workplace.
  • If you have no one to take them, I’m sure if you ask around someone would help.
If it’s just because you are worried there not back too long anyway.
There not back for long anyway. I know dates vary from area to area but where I am they go back 8th March, than the Easter holidays start on the 26th March and there not back until 12th April. By that time shielding will be over from the 31 March.

And don't forget, it's only advice not to leave the house.
If you were going to the shops before you got the letter then absolutely nothing has changed risk wise since before that point. In fact, due to the vaccination program, risk is diminishing

It's not only advice. The law says:
1.—(1) No person who lives in the Tier 4 area may leave or be outside of the place where they are living without reasonable excuse.

Tier 4 is the whole of England.

This is someone who has been told to voluntarily shield though , I'm not entirely sure why it would fall foul of the law not to leave the area?

I was responding to the unqualified statement "it's only advice not to leave the house".
