How much is Council Band B in your area?

  • It's because that's where all of the MPs have homes/second homes. My old boss used to live in the centre of Soho and it always annoyed me he paid less in council tax than I did when I was living in a grotty flat in Archway

Council Tax Band B is 7/9ths of Band D everywhere in the country.
That's how the bands work... The local authority defines D, 9/9ths, then every other band is related to that.

The government publish Band D for every single local authority - https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/council-tax-levels-set-by-local-authorities-in-england-2020-to-2021

If you want all figures (but for band d) you can see them here:
    https://propertydata.co.uk/council-tax
    That's information is not true; it just shows the "basic rate" without all the additions for each place;

    example..
    Basic Council Tax charge for 2020/21 Valuation Band All other areas of Kirklees £ A 955.52 B 1114.77 C 1274.02 D 1433.28 E 1751.78 F 2070.28 G 2388.80 H 2866.55
The calculation is: Basic Council Tax charge + Parish precept (if there is one in your area) + Adult Social Care precept + West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority + West Yorkshire Police Authority charges = Your Council Tax charge

which results in my band D property being: £1831
    Basic Rate: £1433
Kirklees Council Adult Social Care £136.52
Precept Parish Council Precept - £0
Batley West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Authority £65
West Yorkshire Police & Crime Commissioner £196
  • Much like the "per pupil" funding schools get, it varies wildly per local authority without rythme or reason.
Some councils would get 4k per pupil per year, the council next door £6k, even if the areas are identical.  Go figure.
I'm sure there is some technical reason why, but it feels more like someone randomly chose a number once and they it's gone from there.
  • Reason for Wandsworth low council tax is explained in this article:
    https://www.mylondon.news/news/south-london-news/reason-you-pay-ridiculously-small-17767794

Basically Thatcher gave them a load of dosh back in the 80's
  • definitely in need of a reform...
