I am looking at my aternatives to Scottish power, having been switched to them on the demise of Yorkshire Energy.
SO Energy and Pure Planet are on my shortlist.
Pure Planet gets mixed reviews on here plus I'm not to happy with the idea of a variable direct debit from summer to winter.
I can't find any real world reviews on SO Energy, although The Cheap Energy Club gives the 4.5 for customer service.
Anyone got any experience of SO they would care to share please?

I've been with them for around 3 years and all I can say is the switch to them went smoothly and I've had no issues with billing etc. I've stayed as the quotes each year have been very competitve. They just deliver what they are supposed to. I do pay different winter and summer tariffs which is reviewed should it get out of kilter. Currently £74 in credit as winter unwinds.  I see that the Cheap Energy Club have them as best value offer at present.

I was previously with So Energy (currently with Zog for gas & M&S [Octopus in disguise] for electricity) & wouldn't hesitate to go back to them at renewal if the particular tariff suited.

We were with them up until a month or so ago when we switched.  No complaints - they delivered electricity at the most competitive price at the time.  No problems with the switching process.  We never had cause to contact Customer Service, so I can't comment on that aspect.  But we certainly never had any issues with them.
  • I was with So Energy in 2019 for a few months, nice easy switch over process. I moved house 3 months later and they didn't charge the exit fee even though I was still in my 12 months fixed priced contract.

Moving house and getting a final bill was easy, they did the whole process via email which was easier than phone or online chat so full marks to them from me. Credit was returned to me 2 weeks after final bill as promised.

Only reason I didn't go back to them was because there was a cheaper deal elsewhere but I would happily use them again.

With them for last 6 months, very smooth through MSE. Received switching money within a few weeks from them. Customer service good when contacting them. Warm home discount been given recently. Higher DD in winter lower summer. They tell you this and you can have a review.  Don't need smart meters. Bills been accurate  and very easy to read generated in a couple of days. Hope their tariffs are still good when time to renew..

I have been with them for just over a year.  Nothing's gone wrong yet.  I am on one of the tariffs where the direct debit goes up in winter and down in the summer, rather than being fixed for a year.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

This can be turned off to give you a fixed monthly figure all year should you prefer

From my experience. steer well clear.  I had a terrible experience with them.  They failed to update bills for a year, then they tried to leave me with a massive bill as a result of their errors and breaches of contract. Then they wrongly stopped me moving accounts and I had to win a legal dispute with them just to move to an energy provider that I could trust. All the time they were using wrongfully blocking me moving to try to force me to pay a bill I was disputing. And after all of that they refused to send a letter of apology when I asked for it.
