We had problems with the car battery 3 years ago when it was very cold and frosty.  The RAC said someone would be passing by where we were parked on another call out and 10 minutes later they arrived.  They charged the battery up but said we needed a new one so off we went to Halfords.  Not my husbands favourite place but we were in a rural area, not much choice.  We bought the battery and asked them to fit it.  Yes they said, that’s £15.  My husband doesn’t like paying for things he can do himself so he did it himself.  It took quite a while but if MSE readers experience is anything to go by Halfords bods would have taken longer.  He asked them if he could borrow a spanner but they said “no, but you can buy one”.  I see why it’s not his favourite place.

Mind you some of the modern cars make bulb changing an art ,someone i worked with told me they almost had to take the front bumper bar off to change the headlight bulbs ,makes it very hard for people with limited skills.
