Hi there,
As a Nectar Amex holder I put all my spend through this card and net a handsome amount of nectar points on a monthly basis.
Recently Avios was announced as a partner of Nectar so I thought of the below plan to gain some more nectar points, because why not? Free money!
I'm thinking of applying for the British Airways Premium Plus Amex card which gives a signup bonus of 25,000 avios when spending £3000 in 3 months.
Plus at an earning rate of 1.5 Avios per £ spent this should bring me to 29,500 Avios. Could I earn an extra 1000 Avios being referred or does this not apply with me being an existing Amex customer? Best case = 30,500 Avios.
Avios convert to Nectar at a rate of 1 Avios:1.6 Nectar = £244 worth of Nectar points.
Annual fee of this card is £195 and you can cancel pro-rata, so say I cancel after the bonus is received, 3 months is around £65. After closing I'll go back to spending on my Nectar Amex.
This nets me £179 in Nectar points.
Can anyone see any faults with this plan? Any issues applying for BAPP as an existing card holder? Or has anyone else already beaten me to this plan?

Seem fine, not sure on the referral if you're already a cardmember. You may want to wait until there's an increased sign up offer, sometimes you can get 30,000 Avios.

Be careful, sometimes the sign up bonus won’t apply if you have had any Amex card in the last two years, read this article and see if you will get it

My advice is not to self refer as my understanding is that Amex have a big dislike to people doing  this.
If you need a referral code then you can PM me

Thanks, but after further digging it looks like it will be more lucrative to go via Topcashback who are offering £45  :)

If you see the above head for points article, I am eligible for bonuses on the BAPP and Platinum cards having only ever had a Nectar Amex.
  • Good morning, can someone please tell me what BAPP is please?
    Many thanks
  • I think I just worked it out. More coffee needed I think...
